September 30 COD FISH
Capt. Rich reported a decent day of cod fishing. A slow pick of cod of various sizes with a few really nice fish taken including Carlo's fine 30 lb hanger and at least one other fish just over 20 lbs. A lot of anglers aboard today had 2-3 nice cod apiece to take home like longtime regulars Ron Dohan and Lou from Niantic. Ron got two of his three cod on jigs today. Quite a few nice sea bass, a bunch of scup and piles of nice ocean perch and some good size blue fish topped off a respectable catch of cod fish. Next cod fish trip will set sail Friday morning at 7am aboard the Gail Frances. Tomorrow's Porgy trip will take place aboard the Admiral Frances at 8am.

Tuesday September 29th
Capt Richie headed out with only a small amount of anglers on Monday. Despite the wind and swells, the fishing was fair to good. It was difficult to get to the cod grounds but during the small amount of time he was there anglers picked up a handful of cod. Some seabass and bluefish in the mix as well. There are still a tremendous amount of scup around, a bit smaller in size on Monday's trip but still plenty to fill angler's buckets.

Monday September 28th
The overnight tuna trip of September 26-27 reported slower results than on previous trips. A handful of yellowfin. Some of the warm water from previous trips seemed to move out a bit with all that windy weather last week. Capt. Mike and the gang hoping with the different wind direction this week, it will blow back in the warm water temps. Still hooking up with some HUGE Tiger sharks, givng anglers a run for their money. Plenty of room on all upcoming trips, so give the office a call. The season is far from over!

SEPTEMBER 27th
Capt. Ray called into say that the scup charter today was going well despite some wind and rain and that the platter size porgies were flying over the rails. Capt. Chris reported that Striper fishing was slow last night but the alligator blue fish bite was red hot with choppers to 15 lbs and up feasting on the live eels. A few anglers were close to limited out on the super choppers!! Better blue than grey I always say! No combo trip today as most folks chose to stay home and not brave the wind and rain. Tomorrow, September 28, Monday there will be one boat. The Gail Frances will leave at 8am and return at 4pm skippered by Capt. Rich. This will be a mixed bag bottom fishing trip. Next official cod fish trip is now set for Wednesday at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.

September 26 COD
Capt. Rich reported a good day of codfishing despite some tough conditions mostly in the form of a very strong tide. A nice group of enthusiastic anglers came out today to sample the local cod action and found a nice mixed bag of market size cod, some jumbo sea bass and big scup plus a few big blue fish and plenty of super size ocean perch. Hi hooks on the cod had upwards to a half dozen apiece. Largest cod in the mid to upper teens. A dozen or so of the sea bass taken today were real brutes in the 4 to 6 lb size range, a sure sign the migration has begun! Cod fishing will sail weather permitting Monday at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.

September 26 SCUP!!!
Capt. Ray reported another incredible day with the Block Island Porgies. Everyone on board had a blast catching big scup to nearly 3lbs filling buckets and coolers right up. Just a few nice sea bass today. A few slammer blue fish and one really nice trigger fish. Big news of the day was Mike from Narragansett who decided to try a little bucktailing on the anchor and promptly put a fine 7 lb fluke in the boat!! A few other fluke on the porgy baits as well today. The porgy fishing just doesn't get any better folks and it is a short season so come on down while it lasts!

September 27 DAY BOAT SCHEDULE
There will be only one boat tomorrow and it will be a mixed bag bottom fishing outing sailing at 8am aboard the Gail Frances and returning at 4pm. If you have any questions regarding this outing kindly call the office this evening by 8pm.

September 25th COMBO
Capt. Rich reported today's combo trip was a great success with the anglers aboard picking away at some nice cod to 20 lbs on the first stop and then a run into some shallower water for the rest of the day to load up on super size scup to well over 3 lbs, some big sea bass to 4 lbs and a couple more nice cod fish. Once again double headers were commonplace and there were many angler limits. A few blue fish and some ocean perch and one keeper fluke rounded out an excellent haul of cellar dwellars. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's cod trip leaving at 7am aboard the Gail Frances and Capt. Ray will be skippering the full day Porgy boat starting at 8am aboard the Admiral Frances.

September 24 FRIDAY SCHEDULE
There will be just one trip tomorrow. The fishing trip will be a mixed bag bottom fishing trip leaving at 8am and returning at 4pm. Capt. Rich will be skippering the Gail Frances tomorrow and again it will leave at 8am. Capt. Ray reported a great day of Block Island porgy fishing today with just about everyone limiting out on the biggest kind of scup to over 3 lbs. A nice bunch of sea bass up to 4 lbs today in the mix as well. A couple slammer trigger fish and a couple nice blue fish as well. The weather was great and the fishing could not be any better!

September 23rd TUNA TUNA TUNA!!!
Capt. Mike and the Tuna crew reported that it is now five incredible Tuna trips in a row this season!! The long range trip was a tuna lover's dream come true with a full boat limit of Yellowfin to 80 lbs including a lot of bigger fish with the Yellowfin being taken on all methods but really slamming the jigs! They went two for four on the White Marlin, put a 60 lb plus Wahoo in the boat and brought several 30 lb Mahi to the gaff and aboard the Lady Frances. The big news of the trip as if the Yellowfin bite wasnt supreme enough was the two big Swordfish skillfully wrangled to the boat. Walter Falls was one of the Sword wranglers with his 200 lb brute while George Shephard was antoher lucky recipient with a fine 125 lb sword. Two other big Swords were too much for the tackle and straightened the hooks right out flat!! This year's tuna fishing is the best in years!!! Still a good amount of openings on upcoming trips so call the office to book a rail postion.

September 23 COD AND SCUP!!!!
Capt. Rich reports it is now four excellent cod trips in a row. Today was another good day with a solid pick of good size dark and green fish. More and more green fish showing up the past couple trips which is what we like to see. Mr. Pak was happy with his 9 keeper cod today while another angler was pleased with his 8 keepers to 25 lbs. A good number of anglers aboard had 3 to 5 nice cod apiece to take home today. The bite was soft on anchor but there were plenty of cod eating plenty of clams!! More fish in the 12 to 20 lb range today. Again one hook down low with bait was the way to go. There has been some success with jigs recently as well with two anglers on Sunday's run getting 13 nice cod into the low 20s on the iron clams! There have been some limit catches of cod on recent outings as well including Dan from Narragansett who had his limit of fine cod to 18 lbs on Monday's run. Plenty of big ocean perch and an occasional fluke plus a handful of scup and a couple big sea bass in the mix. Some gator size blues to 15 lbs as well but for the most part its a cod show right now and a good one at that! Capt. Rich looks forward to the next cod run at 7am Friday on the Gail Frances. Capt. Ray reported porgy fishing the same today as the last several days with full limits around the boat with good size scup. Sizes to 2.5 lbs. Varying numbers of sea bass from day to day but some hefty sea bass to 4 lbs have been recorded. A few big fluke to 8 lbs were recorded on Monday's run and a few nice fat keeper cod fish, the occasional trigger fish or tatoug and of course some nice ocean perch and big blue fish have kept things quite interesting recently. The scup fishing just could not be any better!! The scup season is short and we intend to make the most of it sailing daily through October 15 th at 8am.

September 20th Stripers
Capt. Chris reported Striper fishing was slow last night. A handful of Stripers to 25lbs and a few blue fish and that was about it. Next Striper trip is slated for this coming Friday Night at 7pm by reservation.

September 19th COD COD COD!!!
Capt. Rich reported the first day of cod fishing got off to an outstanding start. The cod were hungry and just waiting for clam baited hooks with rods bent up and down the rail soon after the anchor came tight. No monsters today but lots of quality fish in the 7 to 15 lb range with the largest approaching 20 lbs. Numbers varied per angler but the average was around six fish a person. Angler hi lights include but are not limited to the following. A group of 5 from the Northwestern corner of CT who had either not been cod fishing in many years or never before took home 26 nice fish all using rental rods. Longtime regular customer Lou from Niantic went home with 8 fine cod fish while another regular customer Tom from Sturbridge went home with 8 nice cod and a 5 lb fluke!! A father and son fishing team from CT had a dozen fine cod to 18 lbs to show for their efforts. The average per man catch was a solid five to six cod fish. The cod bite came in spurts but when they bit they were hanging themselves and just inhaling the clam baited hooks. As I have said one hundred plus times in the past but its the time of year to say it again "ONE HOOK DOWN BY THE SINKER!!!!" The best catches today for both size and numbers were taken by rental rods. Anglers also had some good size ocean perch, a few keeper scup and a couple gorilla size alligator blues in the low to mid teens to round out the day's catch. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's cod fish trip that sets sail at 7am aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Ray reported a great turnout of anglers for today's scup trip with good fishing as well. Plenty of nice porgies and some sea bass. Full buckets and happy anglers. Capt. Ray looks forward to tomorrw's scup trip at 8am aboard the Admiral Frances. Capt. Chris reported the Alex Colon charter was a success with anglers filling up buckets with nice scup and sea bass and all anglers aboard having a grand time.

September 18 TUNA AND SCUP !!!!

Looks like the best weather of the Tuna season so far for this outing. Also with two full nights of fishing there is ample and excellent opportunity to cash in on the incredible night bite that has recently developed. If interested and available to go kindly call the office to book a rail position. Capt. Chris reported it was a one stop day on the scup and mixed bag bottom fishing trip today. The action was once again off the charts and today saw some real slammer porgies with a lot of fish in the 1.5 to 2 lb range and some super scup to just over 3 lbs. The big sea bass came on pretty strong late in the trip with anglers racking up some decent numbers of jumbo sea bass to 4 lbs in short order. Full porgy limits around the boat! A few ocean perch and one nice blue fish in the mix. Capt. Ray looks forward to tomorrow's porgy trip that sets sail at 8am aboard the Admrial Frances. Also we will be kicking off fall cod 2009 tomorrow aboard the Gail Frances with Capt. Rich at 7am. p

September 17th Scup
Capt. Ray reported today's scup trip was very good despite some sporty condtions. Certainly was plenty of fresh early fall air to go along with full pails of nice size scup and a few handfuls of nice size sea bass to 3 lbs. Several very exciting moments today caused by two keeper Stripers that inhaled clam baited hooks intended for the scup. Both Stripers were in the lower teens. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's porgy and mixed bag bottom fishing trip leaving at 8am aboard the Admiral Frances.

September 16th IMPORTANT TUNA UPDATE!!!
Capt. Frank has an important announcement for our Tuna fishermen. September 16 8-4/Tuna!!!
Capt. Rich reported the anglers today CRUSHED the scup. The fishing was about as good as it gets with most anglers limited out or dangerously close to it. One angler had his limit by noon! The size of the scup is just mind boggling!! Fish in the 2 to 3 lb range were commonplace today and everyone had a bunch of 'em with some even bigger specimens to just over 4 lbs recorded!!! Just a few nice size sea bass to 3.5 lbs, some alligator blue fish to 14 lbs, a pile of ocean perch and last but certainly not least two very fine cod fish of 5 and 8 lbs for two very lucky anglers today!! With size and numbers taken into consideration this is some of the best porgy/scup fishing I have ever witnessed. Double headers were the norm at times and two 3 lb scup fighting opposite directions will stop any reel!! Just a great day although a tad breezy towards day's end. Capt. Ray looks forward to tomorrow's scup trip setting sail at 8am. Capt. Mike reported the fourth Tuna trip of the season was a huge success once again with a big mess of Yellow fin tuna to nearly 100 lbs including a good number of bigger fish over 60 lbs. Milo Mitchell from Stafford,Ct aged 13 years young was pleased with the 70 lb Yellowfin he brought to the gaff. Still some good availability on upcoming Tuna trips so don't delay and book a rail postion today!

September 16 updates
Capt. Rich and Capt. Ray have had some phenominal fishing over the past few days. The scup fishing has simply been about as good as it gets and many of the fish have been in the 1.5 to 3 lb range. Yesterday saw most anglers limit out on big scup and the boat was back home a bit early!! Capt. Rich also crushed the jumbo scup yesterday and had a pleasant surprise in the form of 10 keeper cod to 7 lbs mixed in on the scup grounds. A few handfuls of sea bass yesterday on both boats. Trigger fish and an occasional fluke on outings the past few days as well. Capt. Rich also had a grand slam of a trip with jumbo scup and good size sea bass filling pails and coolers to the brim on Sunday as well. Monday featured just one boat and again the fishing was off the charts with big scup and some nice sea bass. On all the trips over the past three days anglers have been filling a five gallon pail and some filling a second. August 28th
Capt.Rich reported an awesome day of fluke and sea bass fishing once again. The day began with a slow pick of mostly good size fluke and a few nice sea bass but by late morning Capt. Rich decided to take a ride to another spot and within seconds after the lines went in the water rods were bent up and down both sides of the boat on big fluke and giant sea bass. This pandemonium continued unabated for the next few hours drift after drift. The boat was drifting kind of fast so they were short drifts but when anglers were into the fish it was wild with the Capt. and crew running around as fast as they could. There were many doubles of both fluke and sea bass today. The sizes on both the fluke and sea bass were just awesome with the biggest fluke 10.5 lbs with another over 8 lbs and too many in the five to seven pound range to count. The sizes on the sea bass was just staggering with most well over 2 lbs and dozens over 4 lbs with quite a few upwards to nearly 7 lbs!! Quite a few nice size blue fish and some platter size scup to top off an excellent haul of fine eating bottom dwellers. Angler hi lights include but are not limited to the following: Dave and Liz Anderson from Carmel NY had 8 jumbo fluke to 7.5 lbs and 8 slammer sea bass to 4 lbs while Douge from Northwestern Ct had 3 jumbo fluke in the 4.5 to 6lb range to compliment a haul of 7 slammer sea bass to 6 lbs most of which were over 3.5 lbs. Mr. Pak had three jumbo fluke and nearly a dozen big sea bass up just under 7 lbs! Ray and Gene from the lower Hudson Valley in NY put together a catch of 8 jumbo fluke and fifteen or more jumbo sea bass to 5 lbs. Gary from Newburgh NY was pleased as the net was slid underneath his behemoth 10.5 lb slab one his three big fluke for the day. Gary also had 7 big sea bass to 5 lbs. Justin Sage from Western Mass was pleased with his limit of big fluke to 6 lbs while Wong from the Bronx had a fine limit of big fluke to 7 lbs with none under 5 lbs!! Wong also had a bunch of big sea bass to 4 lbs and some big blue fish. Another angler had 5 big fluke to 6.5 lbs and three sea bass to 4 lbs plus and this angler stayed very busy catching short fluke all day as well! It was a great day on the water and fishing that just doesn't get much better! There are no fishing trips at all tomorrow. Normal sailing schedule should resume on Sunday. Capt. Don also reported excellent fishing on this morning's half day trip with anglers catching a lot of big fluke to 8 lbs and a handful of jumbo sea bass.

August 27th 730-430
Capt. Rich reported CRUSHING the sea bass and fluke today on the all day boat. The morning and afternoon bite were both about as good as it gets with a steady pick in between. The pool was taken by fluke guru Mike T of Narragansett who took the prize with a fine 8 lb slab one of his four good keepers plus Mike also took home several nice sea bass including a 4 lbr. Mike also lost the biggest fluke of his fishing career today, a wild fish estimated at least to be 12 lbs that jumped out of the net and pulled the hook! I can surely relate as I lost the biggest fluke of my fishing career thus far 9 years ago in a similar fashion. Mr. Pak had his limit of jumbo fluke and took home a dozen nice sea bass up to 3.5 lbs while Ed Phish alos had a full limit of big fluke and a pile of sea bass to take home. Most anglers had two to five big fluke apiece and from four to ten good size sea bass to take home today. A great day!!! Many fluke over 6 lbs today and many super size sea bass with the best just over 6 lbs. All terminal gear worked equally well today although some of the best catches were made with tiny spro jigs. All customers walked off the boat with bags of fresh fillets for many fine meals to come.

August 27th
Capt. Don reported a good half day morning trip today with the fluke keeping anglers aboard the Lady Frances very busy. A handful of good size sea bass mixed in with the fluke as well. August 27 Stripers and PM half
Capt. Ray reported a good night of Striper fishing last night despite some tough tide issues or rather lack of tide. Good size bass up to 30 lbs and a mess of little bluefish pleased anglers. While the Striper fishing was not as crazy as late last week it was still quite good. Next trip sets sail tonight at 7pm and as of now there is plenty of room so call the office to book a position if interested. Capt. Chris reported a good half day PM evening trip last night with sea bass and lots of them the main story. A nice bunch of keeper sea bass went home with customers. Cool northerly breezes and much less humid spell a recipe for a great day on the water today and hopefully the fish will continue to cooperate!!

August 26 updates
There has been some excellent fishing on the recent half day trips recently. Recent hi lights include Rich Bergeron from Cumberland RI who had four nice keepers to 6 lbs on the midday half day yesterday. Owner Christine Blount was out and did a little fishing as well and was pleased with the three fine keepers she had including a fine slab of 8 lbs!! The AM half and today's midday Half trip were also excellent with a lot of good size fluke and some slammer sea bass taken. The past couple days has seen some of the best fishing on the beach in a few weeks and we look forward to it cotinuing through the end of the week. Capt. Rich reports the past couple days have been reasonable aboard the full day fluke and sea bass trip. Today longtime regular customer Dick Burse took the pool with a fine 7.5 lb slab and yesterday Mr. Kwong took the pool with a fine 10 lb slab. Tina from Sleepy Hollow,NY was pleased when a behemoth 6.5 lb sea bass took her fluke offering. Yesterday did feature a lot of good size sea bass as well but not many today. Capt. Mike reported a great shark charter today with nice blue sharks and a pup Mako providing customers with the hi sport and much action. Capt. Chris reported today's charter fluke and sea bass charter for longtime regular customer Robert Beardswood featured a nice steady pick of good size fluke to 6lbs and some nice sea bass. One angler, Roland who never fluke fished before took home three fine keepers!

August 23rd AM
It is a beautiful day down here in Gaililee but the weather scared off just about everyone. No fishing today. The Frances Fleet looks forward to resuming it's normal sailing schedule tomorrow morning.

August 23rd update
Capt. Rich reported a slow day on the full day boat yesterday. The weather was fine with just a bit of a slow long spread out swell but the bite was a bit off. Nevertheless the anglers aboard did grab a few nice fluke, some sea bass and a bunch of good size blue fish. Capt. Don reported the morning half day was reasonable with some nice sea bass caught. Not much in the way of keeper fluke but a few good ones made it aboard and there were quite a few shorts. For those interested in the 8am full day fluke boat right now it looks like the boat will not be sailing until this coming Saturday. Until Saturday there will be just one full day boat for fluke and sea bass leaving at 730 am until then. All other trips are on as scheduled this coming week. Please call the office with any questions.

August 22 schedule
There will be no Whale Watching today and the evening half day and Night Striper are officially canceled as well for today. As of now we are planning on having a 730 to 430 full day fluke and sea bass boat tomororw as well as the 8am to Noon half day and 4pm to 8pm half day. Whale Watching is cancelled for tomorrow.

August 22nd STRIPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Capt. Ray reported last night's Striper fishing once again eclipsed the night before. So a new personal best was set once again for the Frances Fleet. The entire boat was limited out and back to the dock by midnight!! The Striper fishing was just insane. These were mostly all big Stripers, cow bass!! Once again the pool fish was in the 40 lb range with runner up 37 lbs and there were dozens of fish in the 20 to 30 lb range caught with many closer to the 30lb end of that size range. The fishing was just awesome and the boat was only about half full, too bad too many people were worried about the weather as it turned out to be a great night with the Striper fishing as good as it gets both for size and numbers! A decision for tonight's trip will be made later this morning or early this afternoon. The Striper fishing this year has truly been remarkable, by far our best season to date!

August 21st Sharks/7-4
Capt. Chris reported yesterdays offshore big game charter was a success with the anglers having as many as four big blue sharks on at once!! The blue sharks were all big blue dogs in the 175 to 300 lb range. An added bonus was a pup mako that came into the slick and found its way briefly aboard the Capt. Frances and was just as promptly released to grow up big and strong! A grown up mako estimated at well over 200 lbs quickly spooled 130 lb test and won the man vs beast battle. The Shark fishing has truly been phenominal this year and the Capt. Frances is a great boat for small groups to go out and do battle with these big gamesters. Capt. Rich reported a tough day of fishing aboard the 7am full day fluke and sea bass boat today. Some nice fish were caught plus a few handfuls of sea bass. Slow days happen, it is fishing and not catching! Congrats to Mike T from Narragansett who took the pool with a fine 7lb slab today. Remember for the weekend there is only one full day boat sailing 730 to 430 on the Gail Frances for fluke and sea bass. The weather does not appear to be prohibitive for fishing tommorrow during the day, the phone lines have been flooded with calls about Bill. Tommorrow's afternoon and evening trips will be evaluated tomorrow.

August 21st 8-3/scheudule
Capt. Mike reported todays 8am full day fluke boat produced some healthy fluke up to 6.5 lbs, a handful of sea bass and a mix of short fluke, scup and little sea bass and a few sea robins. It was a beautiful day on the water and for this time of the season the action was reasonable. The weather looks good for tonight, surprisingly the Striper trip for tonight is not full, Bill is not going to affect tonight's Striper outing. Keep in mind last night was the best Striper fishing we ever had at the Frances Fleet. There will no 8am to 3pm boat this weekend, there will only be one trip 730am to 430pm on the Gail Frances for fluke and sea bass in regards to full day fishing.

August 21st STRIPERS!!!!
Capt. Ray reported that the Striper fishing last night eclipsed that of the night before!! The fishing was just insane with as many as 10 to 12 fish a drift boated!! Last night's outing boated the most keepers ever for the fleet, a personal best! Sizes were up from the night before as well with the pool fish pulling the needle on the scale down to over 40 lbs and the runner up was over 35 lbs! Many other fish in the upper teens and 20's. Needless to say there were many many limits with some anglers catching up to 6 keepers, retaining only their limit of course. Everyone walked off the boat wtih big bags of fresh Striper fillets for some fine future baking and grilling! An added bonus was a few handfuls of good size choppers. Next Striper trip sets sail tonight at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances. Call the office after 8am too book your prepaid position.

August 20th 4-8
Capt. Paul reported a very light crowd tonight on the 4pm to 8pm tonight enjoyed a great evening of fishing! Excellent numbers of good size sea bass up to 3 lbs pleased anglers with a half dozen or more sea bass per angler not uncommon! What a difference a few hours can make! To make things more exciting a fine 30 inch Striper grabbed a sea bass bait and made his way aboard the Admiral Frances as well. The action was steady the whole trip. A bunch of short fluke but just one for the box.

August 20th
Capt. Rich reported a fair day of fluke fishing and sea bass fishing. The catching was very good but the keeping was slightly underpar. Some nice fluke to 7lbs and some good size sea bass went home with customers. Next 7am full day trip sets sail tomorrow aboard the Gail Frances skippered by Capt. Rich. Capt. Don reported a slow pick of nice size sea bass to 3 lbs for his customers on the AM half but not much in the way of fluke today. Capt. Don also wanted to pass along that the recent overnight bird charter was a big success seeing all kinds of offshore sea birds. No Whale Watching today due to the fog. Next Whale Watch trip is slated for tomorrow at 1pm.

August 20th STRIPERS !!!!!!!
Capt. Ray reported a nearly sold out crowd last night CRUSHED the Striped Bass with rods bent up and down the side of the boat drift after drift attatched to good size Stripers. No monsters but nice fish in the teens with the best tipping the scales in the lower 20s. Needless to say many many limits. As many as ten Stripers each drift!! A nice pile of big blue fish up to 12 lbs as well. Anglers and crew alike worked hard to make things a grand slam success. Capt. Ray looks forward to tonight's Striper trip leaving at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances.

August 19th 4-8pm
Capt. Paul reported a very pleasant 4-8pm this evening with some incredible weather and very good fishing for keeper sea bass. Plenty of short sea bass mixed in and some short fluke to keep rods bent at a steady pace. The crew aboard all had a great time catching some fine eating bottom fish and enjoying the most pleasant time of day on the water this time of year. The 4-8 pm half day sails daily.

August 19th schedule updates/correction
The full day fluke and sea bass boat will depart at 730 am tomorrow morning, not at 7am. The 8am full day fluke boat will resume it sailing schedule for Friday through Sunday. After that please call the office as the schedule for that boat is subject to high variability.

August 19th updates
Capt. Rich reported a long but relativley productive day aboard the Gail Frances for fluke and sea bass. The catching and keeping was highly variable among the anglers aboard today with some anglers such as longtime regular Tony from South Windsor, Ct taking home five jumbo fluke to 5 lbs and 9 nice sea bass to 3 lbs. Young Thadius had the day's big fish with a fine 7.5 lb slab bring the big fluke to the net under the masterful guidance of longtime regular and fluke guru Dick Burse. Next 7am fluke and sea bass combo sets sail tomorrow morning aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Mike reported the first two half day outings for today were on the slow side but a few nice fluke and some sea bass were taken by the anglers aboard. For those interested there were excellent Whale sightings on the Whale Watch yesterday afternoon. Next Whale Watch sets sail tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.

August 16th Stripers!!
Capt. Ray reported Striped Bass fishing was once again outstanding and right back to where it has been most of the season last night. Anglers brought in one nice Striper after another with a couple really hefty cows taken including fish of 40 and 35 lbs!! Some good size blue fish as well. There were a few angler limits and all this on a sold out Striper boat!! Next Striper outing is this coming Wednesday at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances. Striper fishing will continue on a four night per week sailing schedule through the first week of September at least!

Aug 16 yesterday 7-4/misc.
Capt. Rich reported an okay day of fluke fishing combined with super summer weather made for a great day with a nice mix of big fluke and improved numbers of good size sea bass. Dave Nicoletti took the pool with a fine slab over 8 lbs. Plenty of shorts kept anglers busy today. Remember folks for Sunday and Monday there is one full day boat leaving at 730 am aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Mike reported last night's Pm half was disarmingly quiet despite a nice turnout of anglers. A quick drift but the fluke just werent interested unless you were a certain young lady fishing in the bow who had a brace of nice slabs to take home. A bail out at the end of the trip over the scup and sea bass grounds did bend all rods and give some anglers something to take home. The 4-8 pm and 8-12am half days sail daily and on Mon through Wed we add an addtional mid afternoon trip from 1-5pm.

August 15th half day and yesterday whales
Capt. Keith reported a good morning of half day fishing. Jumbo fluke, good size sea bass and nice size scup all pleased anglers today aboard the Lady Frances. One lucky angler had a fine brace of jumbo fluke including fish of 7 and 5 lbs. Some anglers walked off the boat with several nice sea bass apiece. Capt. Keith also confirmed reports that Whale Watching was excellent and reported also that there was acres and acres of blue fin tuna busting through the massive shoals of sand eels which is also responsible for the incredible Whale Watch season we are experiencing.

August 15th Striper and other updates
Capt. Ray reported last night's Striper fishing was better last night than this past Wednesday night. Anglers put a respectable number of keepers in the boat plus a bunch of nice size choppers. Nothing big with the best in the low teens on the bass. Tonight's Striper trip is sold out. Next Striper trip will sail Wednesday at 7pm abaord the Lady Frances. Important news for Striped Bass enthusiasts is that in September we are planning to add at least Friday Nights to the sailing schedule for Stripers so that would be Friday and Saturday nights in September and perhaps even more. Stay tuned! Capt. Rich reported yesterday's 7am full day fluke/sea bass trip produced some good size fluke and sea bass but the fishing was not as good as the past couple days with light winds and lack of drift mainly to blame.

August 14th PM 1/2/Whales
Capt. Mike reported an excellent PM half this evening fishing close to home. Melissa from Warwick on her second fluke trip ever had the pool with a fine 6.5 lb slab while another angler had three jumbo fluke to nearly 6 lbs to take home with him this evening. As of this time there was no word on how the 7am boat did today but the fishing on that boat has been excellent. Today's Whale Watch was excellent with again great sightings.

August 14th 8-3/AM half/schedule update
Capt. Mike reported some super fine weather today made the 8am full day fluke boat a most enjoyable day on the water for the anglers aboard. The fluke action was just mediocre. To be sure some nice fluke up to 5.5 lbs were brought to the safety of the net today. A decent amount of sea bass up to 3.5 lbs mixed in as well with a scattering of good size scup as well. All anglers aboard left with some good eating fillets today. Plain old tandem bait rig with just squid and spearing was the top rig today but all terminal gear was effective. Capt. Don reported this morning's AM half day was respectable this morning with some nice size keeper fluke and sea bass going home with the customers aboard today. We have an important announcement as well, we will be running only one fluke and sea bass boat through Monday. The Gail Frances will be leaving at 730 am and returning at 430 pm all three days. This means there will be no 8am full day fluke boat through Monday.

August 13th all updates
Capt. Rich reported an excellent day of fluke fishing on the 7am full day fluke and sea bass boat. There were a number of limits including Mr. Kin, Sandra and Cyrus. A good many anglers had four or five jumbo fluke apiece as well today. Once again a light crowd enjoyed excellent fishing with plenty of elbow room at the rails. A few sprinkles never hurt anyone! Gary from Connecticut took the pool with a 7 lb slab. Again just a handful of sea bass today. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's full day fluke and sea bass outing aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Chris reported another good day full day charter despite a quick drift on the Capt. Frances today. The sea bass were the main story with a few good size fluke in the mix. It was almost all fluke today and lots of good ones with Lee from Boston getting the pool with a fine 7.5 lb slab. Very few sea bass today, the big fluke were back and stole the show. It was a great day on the water with excellent drift conditions and happy anglers leaving with nice bags of fresh fluke fillets. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's outing aboard the Gail Frances departing at 7am. Capt. Don reported both the AM half and mid afternoon half day were good with the mid afternoon trip almost excellent. I am still in the process of finding out Monday's results and will have them as soon as they become available. The other big story the past few days has been the excellent Whale Watching both on Sunday and on Tuesday. Capt. Ray reported another great night of Striper fishing. It was a slow start but once the tide got going the Striper fishing broke loose with lots of nice bass coming to the gaff with the largest in the lower 20's and of course a few limits. While there was some rain there was little or no wind and it was very calm and made for a beautiful summer night on the water. Capt. Ray looks forward to tonight's Striper trip leaving at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances. Capt. Rich reported yesterday's fluke/sea bass trip started out great but slowed considerably once the wind conditons made the drift just too fast. Until then a mix of nice sea bass and keeper fluke were taken by anglers. Hi hook had 7 sea bass. Mr. Pak took the pool with a nice fluke. Capt. Mike reported that the Tucker Mechanical group also had good fishing for both fluke and sea bass on their full day charter before the wind and rain and drift conditions became unfriendly. Capt. Don reported yesterday's AM half day was busy with lots of action and a few sea bass thrown in for good measure.

July 31st Striper
Capt. Ray reported a good night of Striper fishing for a sold out crowd last night. A lot of good size Stripers came to the gaff with the largest around 30 lbs followed by several others in the 20's and the average size around 15 lbs. Some short bass and a few blue fish last night as well. The drift conditons were perfect according to Capt. Ray and first mate Nelson. It is imperative to listen to the seasoned crew aboard the Striper boat as they are only there to help anglers put more Bass in the boat and on this trip especially, just like any other it is imperative that the anglers aboard work together. Pary boat Striper fishing is a lot of fun and great sport but it can be intense when the bite is on. Capt. Ray looks forward to tonight's Striper trip leaving at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances.

July 30 update/schedule change
There will only be a 7am to 4pm fluke/sea bass combo tomorrow, Friday July 31st. There will be no 8am full day. The 8am full day will resume Saturday, August 1st. It was a nice day of weather and the fish cooperated as well on all trips.

July 30 update
Capt. Ray called in another excellent Striped Bass report for last night's outing. From the first drift to the last drift it was complete mayhem with Stripers on up and down the boat. Weather conditions were somewhat challenging as 20z was needed to just skip along the bottom and it still looked like anglers were flying kites so understandably some fish lived to fight another day nevertheless the Stripers were ravenous in the fast moving water and at the end of the night the majority of anglers aboard were limited out with nice fish. No monsters but the largest were in the 20 lb range with very few shorts. Just a couple bluefish mixed in. Still plenty of openings for Friday and Saturday Night's outings and still a bunch of openings for tonight's trip. Capt. Ray looks forward to tonight's Striper trip leaving at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances.

July 25 Striper update
Capt. Ray called in to say last night's Striper fishing may have been about the best ever in the history of the Frances Fleet with an awesome number of big Stripers boated. If not the best definitely in the top three! All night long a healthy group of anglers rods were doubled over up and down the rail along the entire length of the boat fighting big Stripers. The majority of the very respectable number of anglers aboard were limited out with many anglers catching 4 to 6 big bass each retaining only their limit as always. There were three big bass over 30 lbs to fight it out for the pool and too many 25 lbrs to count!!! Very few fish under 15 lbs and almost no throwbacks! A bunch of good size blue fish as well last night to top it off! Still openings for tonight's Striper trip. A special thanks to Capt. These three anglers represent just a fraction of the angler hi lights from today. On the Fluke front things were slower due to lack of drift but a solid number of nice fish to 5 lbs were taken by anglers. Today featured the best haul of sea bass yet this year and with all the bait around we only look for things to get better!! Capt. Don also had quite the trip this afternoon on the 1 to 5pm half day. A modest group of angler had a nice bunch of big fluke to 9 lbs and a mess of good size sea bass to 4 lbs. Ray looks forward to another good night of Striper fishing tonight leaving at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances. Capt. Paul reported his Striper charter got off to a slow start with the tide being slack but once the tide started moving his anglers started to crush the Stripers as well and ended up having an outstanding evening. The Captain Frances is perfect for Night Striper charters for groups of up to 15 anglers.

Capt. Keith was pleased to report a big improvement in the Night Blue fish action last night with more than triple the amount of blue fish boated. All nice choppers to the 10 lb range. Next blue fish trip sets sail this evening (7/18) aboard the Gail Frances at 7pm.

7 am to 4pm fluke/cbass full day
Capt. Rich reported an outstanding trip today for both fluke and sea bass. Some real hefty sea bass including fish in the 3 to 4 lb range. The majority of the fluke are in the 4 to 7 lb class with the biggest fish around 8 lbs. The fishing just keeps getting better and better. Capt. Rich is looking forward to tomorrow's full day fluke/cbass trip which sets sail aboard the Gail Frances at 7 am.

Striper fishing Thursday Night
Capt. Ray reported an excellent night of Striped Bass fishing Thursday Night with nearly half the boat limited out on good size Stripers to nearly 20 lbs. A few nice size blue fish thrown in for good measure. The fishing was solid all night long with Stripers taken on every drift. Capt. Ray commented that this has been the best three weeks of Striper fishing in quite some time and we see no reason why it shouldn't continue. Striped Bass fishing sails Wed through Sat nights at 7pm by reservation.

8 am to 3pm Full Day Fluke
Capt. Mike reported it was a beautiful summer day in a summer which so far is starved for good weather. The fishing was as good as the weather with the catching about as good as it gets for the first half of the day. However the keeping was a bit off so Capt. Mike moved to another location looking for bigger fluke and bigger fluke he did find with Mr. Stepp from Colchester,Ct nailing a fine 29 inch 10.5 lb slab. First mate Chris also swung his rod for a few minutes and promptly brought a fine 7 lb slab to the net. A bunch of good size sea bass to nearly 4 lbs and a big bunch of jumbo scup to 2 lbs mixed in. July 16 7-4/8-3 update
Capt. Rich reported an excellent day of fluke/cbass fishing aboard the Gail Frances. The majority of the anglers aboard had 2 to 5 jumbo fluke apiece with a few anglers limited out for good measure. A lot of big fluke over 5 lbs with the best around or just over 8 lbs. Quite a few hefty sea bass mixed in as well with a good number of fish in the 2.5 to 4 lb range and the biggest sea bass pushing the scales down to nearly 5 lbs. Lots of short fluke to keep every one busy through the day with many of the shorts just under the legal limit. Many of these fish will probably make it to legal size by next month so this fishing already great will only continue to excel. A nice group of anglers left the boat content with plenty of good meals to come. The 7am fluke/cbass boat will sail tomorrow morning aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Paul reported another busy day along the south shore beaches on the 8am full day fluke with the keeper ratio slightly improved but still not quite where we would like to see it. Nevertheless some jumbos to 6 lbs were brought to the net. Some anglers caught more fluke today than they ever caught before on a fluke outing !A handful of jumbo sea bass to over 3 lbs and some platter size scup mixed in as well. Still tons of sand eels all over the beaches so things still look very good. Capt. Mike looks forward to tomorrow's fluke trip aboard the Admiral Frances.

July 16 Striper update
Capt. Ray reported the Night Striper fishing last night started off good but slowed considerably as the night went on. A few nice blue fish in the mix as well. Ray looks forward to tonight's Striper fishing leaving aboard the Lady Frances at 7pm.

July 15/7-4 and PM 1/2
Capt. Rich reported the fast drift condtions today affected his full day fluke and sea bass trip as well. More sea bass than fluke today with most really nice fish upwards to 4 lbs and anglers had upwards to a half dozen sea bas apiece to take home. On the fluke front a respectable number of keepers to 6 lbs and plenty of shorts kept anglers busy. A couple anglers had several keeper fluke apiece. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomrrow's fluke/sea bass trip leaving at 7am aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Don reported a busy mid afternoon half day trip with lots of action and a few good keepers in the mix as well. Tammy's daughter Taylor bagged two nice jumbo keeper fluke and Capt. Don himself came down and swung the rod for a few minutes and promptly wrangled a fine 4.5 lb sea bass to the net. This mid afternoon half day trip sails 1 to 5 pm Mon Tues and Wed.

July 15th 8-3 update/AM 1/2
Capt. Mike reported the fishing and catching on today's 8am full day trip was as good as it gets but the keeping was another story. Anglers did drill some good fluke to 5 lbs but we wished the keeping percentage was better. The keeper ratio had been much better before today but the fast drift may have had something to do with that. A few slammer scup and one fine 3.5 lb sea bass otherwise all fluke!! Tomorrow's another day and we look forward to more excellent fluking along Rhode Island's south shore tomorrow at 8am aboard the Admrial Frances. Capt. Don reported a good AM 1/2 with some nice keepers and piles of shorts to keep the novice group aboard very busy and attentive at the rail.

7-4 update July 14th
Capt. Rich reports with the exception of Monday's run the fishing has been excellent on the 7am fluke/cbass full day trip. Sunday featured several limits including Dan Melino who did his damage as he usually does with whole squid. A lot of good size sea bass but no real monsters. Biggest fluke of the day was a solid 9 lb slab however. Tuesday's trip featured only one limit but there were several anglers who were very close and there were a bunch of jumbo sea bass in the 3 to 4 lb range with the pool being decided between two 8 lb fluke. Capt. Rich reported on Tuesday it was a later bite as there was little to no drift in the morning. Capt. Rich also reported all terminal gear working lately. The 7am fluke/cbass trip sails daily aboard the Gail Frances.

July 14th Whales
Capt. Keith reported another excellent whales show today courtesy of at least fifteen breeching Finback whales. Once again just a stand out season and its only in its infancy!! Capt. Keith reported a great turnout of whale enthusiasts aboard today. Next Whale Watch is scheduled for Thursday leaving at 1pm aboard the Lady Frances.

July 14th 8-3/1/2 AM
Capt. Mike reported a very pleasant day of local fluking today with similar results for yesterday. There was plenty of action and some nice fish to 6-7lbs taken both days. A few sea bass in the mix as well. The 8am full day boat sails daily aboard the Admral Frances. Capt. Keith reported the catching was excellent on the AM 1/2 today but the keeping was a bit off from previous trips. Nevertheless the anglers aboard enjoyed a beautiful morning on the water catching plenty of fish.

July 12 8-3 trip
Capt. Mike reported the red hot bite continued the rest of the day and during the sunset fluke trip as well. A good numbers of keepers amongst the shorts with double headers common place and the fishing continueing like red hot porgy fishing. Capt. Mike fished several different zones with the same results. The big influx of sand eels has seemingly paved the bottom with fluke including lots of good fish. No monsters but pool winners of 7 lbs or so are nothing to shake a stick at! Capt. Mike reported the modest group of anglers on the full day trip brought home plenty of fresh fillets with one angler limit and several who were very close behind. Just a few seabass in the mix. The action was even better than Capt. Mike and Roger observed during the mid to late week and Roger really wished he had been able to experience it! Due to the sand eels a simple bait rig with just squid/spearing is all one needs, although the fish have been so frenzied they will attack just about anything waved in front of them. Capt. Mike is out on the local fluke grounds today so look for another full report to follow.

July 12 8-3/AM 1/2
Capt. Mike and Capt. Don both reported the bite just outside the gap was once again of historic proportion this morning and early afternoon. The action was similar to porgy fishing when the bite is red hot with every rod bent to the tune of one or two fluke at a time. Again both boats had a good number of keeper fish with the best on the AM 1/2 around 6 lbs. No final word on the big fish of the day from the 8am full day boat but fish of over 6 lbs had been boated by late morning. Once again these fluke are stacked up and gorging on a historic run of big sand eels.

July 12 Stripers
Capt. Ray reported a great turnout of anglers for last nights Striper trip and while the first few drifts produced some big bass into the low 30's the drift then became too fast, even 20z would not hold bottom!! A few blue fish mixed in. Next Striper trip by reservation sails at 7pm this coming Wednesday evening aboard the Lady Frances.

July 11 full day fluke trips/charter
Capt. Rich reported an outstanding day of fluke/cbass fishing on the Gail Frances. What a difference a good drift makes!! Customers caught a lot of big fluke and good size sea bass all day long with a good half dozen anglers limited out on jumbo fluke. Anthony Desena from Brooklyn, NY not only limited out but took home the pool with a fine 9 lb slab and he nailed five good size sea bass to boot! Way to go Anthony!! Anthony caught all his big fluke and sea bass using a simple bait rig with a bare hook and a squid strip and spearing. This combo has been around for ever and it still works wonders just like the smiling bill bucktails, fancy that!! Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's trip aboard the Gail Frances leaving at 7am. Capt. Mike reported a good day of local fluking on the 8am full day boat. An excellent number of keepers and plenty of shorts kept things busy all day long. Just a few sea bass mixed in but some nice size scup were taken as well. The Fluke were rather spread out but a few anglers were very close to their limits. Sizes to 6 lbs. The standard bait rig was also a hot producer today but all terminal tackle worked well. Capt. Mike looks forward to tomorrow's full day fluke trip leaving at 8am aboard the Admrial Frances. Capt. Paul reported an outstanding fluke charter today for Mike Naipower's group from New Jersey. The fishing was fast and furious with a lot of big fluke in the 5 to 7 lb range mixed with the biggest a fine 8 lb slab. All anglers aboard had a blast and also picked up a bunch of nice sea bass to 3 lbs and a fine 6 lb tatoug.

July 11 Stripers/Blues
Capt. Ray reported another good night Striped Bass outing. Despite horrific drifting conditons due to wind and tide anglers still managed to put together a good catch of nice size Stripers with sizes into the lower 20s. Just one blue fish tonight. Capt. Ray looks forward to tonight's Striper trip leaving at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances. Capt. Keith reported the first night blue fish outing of they year was slightly lack luster. Anglers did get some good size blue fish but it was a slow pick. A nice fat brick red cod fish of 7lbs and a 3 lb sea bass made things rather interesting. Capt. Keith will be out blue fishing again this evening. The Night Blue fish trip sets sail at 7pm aboard the Gail Frances.

July 10 7-4/PM 1/2/Whales
Capt. Rich reported a slower day on the fluke/cbass boat today. Anglers still had a solid pick of quality jumbo fluke and sea bass, an equal quantity of both. Biggest fish was 7 lbs today. The take was actually not too bad considering the absolute lack of drift. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's outing at 7am aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Mike reported a great night on the 4-8 half day with anglers bailing the fluke from start to finish. A bunch of double headers. Not a whole lot of keepers but some quality fish up to 6 lbs were taken. Mike T. from Narragansett had two nice jumbos of 6 and 5 lbs to take home this evening. Just a couple sea bass in the mix. Capt. Don reported today's Whale Watch trip was once again a tremendous success. Lots of breeching Humpback and Minke whales observed today. Capt. Cory was aboard and will be posting some pictures soon on the website. The whale show was truly phenominal. Customers are also seeing tremendous numbers of sea birds. Whale Watching sails Tues, Thurs, Fri and the weekends at 1pm.

8-3 update July 10
Capt. Mike reported an excellent day of fishing today within ten minutes of the dock!! A nice steady pick evolved into some lock and load fishing the last couple hours with fluke flying over the rails up and down the entire length of the boat. A nice mix of sizes today with a lot of quality fish boated. Longtime 8-3 customer George Wahl from New Britian,CT had a great day catching fluke of 8.5,6.5,6, and 5.5 lbs!! Nice job George!! George got two of those slabs using whole squid and the others using a tandem bait rig. All terminal gear worked very well today. A couple nice pops of jumbo sea bass to 3.5 lbs and a few jumbo scup to top things off. Once again the fluke were covered with sea lice and just loaded to the gills with sand eels. All kinds of various sea birds could be seen working above the bait as well. Last but certainly not least a friendly harbor seal popped his head up out of the water to check out the Admiral Frances and its passengers before swimming away. Capt. MIke looks forward to another good day of local fluking tomorrow on the Admiral Frances departing at 8am.

July 10 Striped Bass!!
Capt. Ray reported that his customers once again put a hurt on the Striped Bass last night. Ideal drift conditions and good anglers was a perfect recipe for success and there were a good number of limits of big Stripers taken. Pool fish was over 30 lbs with many others in the 20s. A good number of blue fish as well with sizes from small up to alligator size in the lower teens. Last but certainly not least was the 8 lb doormat fluke taken right before Capt. Ray sounded the whistle to go home. Only one short bass. This epic Striper fishing continues full force and Capt. Ray looks forward to tonight's trip leaving the dock at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances.

7-4 and 4-8 update July 9
Capt. Rich reported despite an incredibly fast drift it was a good day of fishing aboard the 7am full day fluke/cbass boat. Almost an equal split of jumbo fluke and good size sea bass with the biggest fluke tipping the scales at 8 lbs. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's trip which departs at 7am aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Mike reported a good 4pm to 8pm evening half day tonight with fast and furious action just ten to fifteen minutes from the dock with rods bent over up and down the rail. Even a few double headers. Mixed sizes including some jumbos up to 6 lbs and a few jumbo sea bass to 3 lbs.

8-3/ Night Striper update
Capt. Mike reported another solid day of fishing aboard the 8-3 full day fluke boat. This good fishing despite some very trying conditons mainly a very very fast drift with just a slight slowdown in drift speed late in the trip. Nevertheless the anglers aboard caught fluke all day long including a respectable number of double headers. A few good looking sea bass as well in the mix. We would like to thank Mr. Pak and his group for coming down today. Mr. Pak was dangerously close to being limited out today and had several double headers today. Seung Yeop from Tenatly, NJ took the pool with a fine 8 lb slab today. Again the fish were gorging on enormous sand eels and the gannets and sheerwaters could be seen in large flocks working above the shoals of sand eels. This angler in his ten plus years of fluking has never ever seen bait like this along the beaches. This bait is truly extraordinary! Anglers have also had some success using tinker mackerel they catch right off the docks although the tinkers of late are getting kind of large. Whole squid is also productive but once again today all terminal gear was effective. Capt. Ray reported a good night of Striper fishing but not as red hot as late last week. Anglers did get some nice fish to 20 lbs. Fishing for the charter boats over the weekend was reported to be legendery so we know there is still piles of big bass around. Look for a new Striper report tommorrow as tonight's trip is setting sail at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances.

1/2 update July 9th
Capt. Don reported a strong half day morning trip with a nice slug of keepers and plenty of short fluke to keep anglers busy. A few sea bass to boot. Capt. Paul reported last night's PM half day was pleagued by a very slow drift but a few really nice fluke were brought to the net including slabs of 8 and 7 lbs. Remember we are on a full half day schedule now so the 8-12 and 4-8 trips sail daily with a mid afternoon 1-5 trip Mon through Wed.

July 8 7-4 update
Capt. Rich reported another good day aboard the 7am to 4pm fluke/cbass trip. Some real quality fish today with a couple anglers coming dangerously close to their limit. There were three fluke over 8 lbs with the best taken by longtime regular customer Ray Kay from NY who had a fine 8.5 lb slab and took the pool honors. There were a lot of keeper sea bass today. No monsters but all nice keeper fish and some anglers had a few to several apiece to take home with their fluke. Not many shorts, the name of the game was quality. The fluke have been loaded with small squid on this trip recently. Capt. Rich looks forward to more good fishing tomorrow leaving at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.

July 8 8-3 update
Capt. Mike was jubilant to report today's 8am to 3pm fluke trip was as good as he has ever seen!!! From the first drop to the closing whistle rods were doubled over up and down the side of the boat. Double headers were not just commonplace they were frequent. One angler had five doubles today including a nice fluke and a 3 lb sea bass with the rest all fluke doubles. Nearly half the boat was limited out including of course Mr. Pak from Queens. No monsters today but lots of jumbos with the best around 6.5 lbs. In addtion to the fluke there was a good slug of jumbo sea bass to 3.5 lbs. The action was lock and load all day with most of the anglers aboard catching more fluke today than ever before on a full day trip. The fluke were gorged with sand eels today and the sand eels were marking ten to twenty feet thick on the recorder!! These were not the tiny sand eels seen early this spring, these were big sand eels the size of which one would find on the inshore cod grounds or even George's Bank. Everyone aboard left with a nice bunch of fish today and perhaps even best of all the action was but a mere ten minute ride from the dock!! This trip is notorious for its fast paced action but today was really something to behold. The fluke were all covered with sea lice indicating fish moving in from offshore so it appears a whole new batch of fluke has settled in on the beach. All terminal gear was effective today but a double bucktail set up and tandem bait rig were the top producers. At times the action was so fast it rivaled red hot scup fishing in the fall. Capt. Mike cannot wait to get out on the local fluke grounds tomorrow morning as the Admiral Frances is set to sail at 8am.

Whale update July 7th
Capt. Don was jubilant to report that today was THE BEST WHALE WATCH TRIP HE HAS EVER EXPERIENCED!!!!!!!!!!!! Capt. Keith who was also aboard shared the same opinion. At least 20 to 30 breeching Humpback Whales surrounded the Lady Frances. Mothers and calves playing and gorging themselves on the massive shoals of sand eels which have invaded these local waters. Above the whales and bait hundreds of sheerwaters and storm petrels and gannets could be seen working so there is plenty for bird enthusiasts as well. Many of the customers came inside afterwards just elated over the incredible whales show they witnessed this afternoon. Whale Watching sails Tues,Thurs,Fri and the weekend at 1pm and returns at 530pm.

July 7 All updates
Some big news at the Frances Fleet since the last update on Sunday morning. First of all Whale Watching on Sunday was spectacular. Breeching Humpback Whales just surrounded the Lady Frances and they were joined above by tremendous numbers of sheerwaters and gannets. We look forward to another brilliant Whale Watch season here at the Frances Fleet. Capt. Mike also had some great news from last night's 4-8 PM 1/2 day trip. Capt. Mike was excited to report that Bill Borque from Narragansett, RI wrangled a fine 31 inch 14 lb fluke to the net. The fluke was taken on a hi lo finstrike rig with white feathers tipped with squid/spearing combo. This is the year's biggest fluke by far and certainly Bill's biggest as well. If anyone is keeping track this fluke and the three biggest caught last year were caught aboard the Admiral Frances. In other news the 7am and 8am full day fluke boats have both been doing well recently. Good size fish on both both with sizes to 8 lbs and a good dose of sea bass as well. Plenty of shorts in between to keep anglers busy and focused at the rails. Things point to an explosive summer of fluke fishing as the bait is very thick in all areas. We are quite anxious to get back Striper fishing tomorrow night with the incredible fishing that took place late last week. If interested in Night Striper fishing kindly call the office and book a spot.

Sunday July 5 squid/finfish trip
Capt. Frank would like to put together a squid/finfish combo trip for Saturday Night July 18th leaving at 7pm and returning at 1am. This trip will be by reservation. There is still a remarkable amount of squid in residence along the south shore beaches. This trip will start with a drift or two for fluke and then after dark the boat will anchor up and anglers can jig for squid or continue to fish for bottom finfish such as scup, sea bass and fluke. For the finfish nothing will work better than sacrificing a fresh caught squid or two. To make a resevation kindly call the office.

7-4 update July 4
Capt. Rich reported a great start to today's action on the 7am fluke/cbass outing. The first few stops produced some really good size fluke up to 8 lbs and in that short period of time some anglers had 2 to 4 keepers apiece. A bunch of sea bass as well up to 3.5 lbs. However then the wind came up and the wind and tide ran together thus providing a drift that was just too too fast and resulting in a bite that slowed down. Nevertheless it was still a strong day. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's 7am outing aboard the Gail Frances for fluke and sea bass.

8-3 July 4 update
Capt. Paul reported some tough conditions today aboard the 8am full day boat but the fishing was very good. The catching was excellent but the big fluke were somewhat elusive for anglers today. Some nice keepers up to 6 lbs were taken plus a bunch of nice sea bass to 3 lbs. Like on the AM 1/2 the day started with a nice steady drift but by 10 am the wind really picked up and we were flying!! Capt. Paul marked squid ten to fifteen feet thick on the drifts and the fluke were all gorged with big squid. Some bigger fish were lost today as well so there are most certainly some big fish on the beach, alll we need is a little less wind. It was a beautiful day though with comfortable temperatures and cobalt blue skies. The tandem bait rig by far was the top producer today. We look forward to tomorrow's full day trip aboard the Admiral Frances leaving at 8am.

July 4 1/2 AM update
Capt. Mike reported an excellent half day AM trip with a lot of big fluke boated. The action was outstanding before the wind really picked up and after awhile the drift was just too quick and the bite slowed up but the damage was done. A half dozen fish over 6 lbs with twin 7.5 lbrs to fight it out for the pool. The Frost and Spazato group had 6 big fluke and some nice sea bass to take home and the group also had the twin 7.5 lb fluke taken by the two youngest members in the group!! Capt. Mike was very pleased with the fishing and if the wind had not come up so much who knows the damage that couldve been done!! Half day fluke fishing resumes tomorrow morning at 8am aboard the Lady Frances.

Striped Bass update July 4
Capt. Ray reported another grand slam of Night Striper fishing. It was an all out bail job with rods doubled over on big bass on every single drift. Just about the entire boat was limited out!! Some anglers caught as many as 7-8 big bass apiece, retaining only their limits of course but catch and release is a lot of fun too!! There were two fish in the low 30's and quite a few over 20 lbs. With the exception of two shorts it was all big linesiders last night. The past two nights have featured party boat Striper fishing at its finest. Striped Bass fishing is now on a Wed,Thurs,Fri and Sat night schedule by reservation leaving at 7pm.

July 3 7-4/1/2 days
Capt. Rich reported another good day aboard the 7am fluke/cbass boat today. Anglers picked away at some big fluke and some really nice jumbo sea bass. Pool fluke was a solid 8 lbs and the biggest sea bass over 4 lbs. Quite a few fluke that were just shy of the legal limit as well. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's trip leaving at 7am for fluke and sea bass aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Mike reported a nice mix of good size fluke and a lot of keeper sea bass aboard the AM 1/2 trip this morning. Plenty of shorts as well. Young fisherman Chris on his first deep sea fishing trip ever caught 13 fluke himself!! Biggest fish around 5.5 lbs. On the PM 1/2 trip Capt. Paul fished the same zone as he did on the full day and the results were quite different! Lots of nice big fluke up to nearly 7 lbs with the pool taken from a mate who works on a party boat in CT. Not as many shorts or sea bass though and again fishing the same area! Every tide is different never mind every day! Capt. Paul was very pleased with the results. There will be no PM 1/2 tomorrow in observance of the holiday. Half day schedule will resume as normal on Sunday.

Striped Bass/8-3 Fluke July 3
Capt. Ray was elated to relay the news of the red hot Striped Bass bonanza that took place last night. The majority of anglers were limited out on good size bass in fact several anglers caught as many as 4 and 5 big bass each, retaining only their limit of course. There were three fish over 30 lbs taken. Not a single short bass or blue fish. It was a great, great night! Striped Bass fishing is now on a Wed,Thurs,Fri and Sat night schedule by reservation sailing at 7pm. Capt. Paul reported a fair day of fluking on the beach aboard the 8-3 boat. Just not much drift and the fluke were certainly there but required much finesse to catch regularly. Quite a few shorts kept anglers busy inbetween some nice keepers to 6.5 lbs and once again a nice bunch of good size sea bass up to 3 lbs today with some anglers getting 3 to 6 nice keeper sea bass apiece. All terminal gear seemed to work equally well today.

7-4 June 30 update
Despite a stormy start Capt. Rich reported a great day on the 7 am fluke/cbass trip with the majority of anglers limiting out!! Those who did not limit were dangerously close. This was the best trip of the season so far considering both numbers and sizes. Angler hi lights included but are not limited to the following: John Frost and Gary Spazato who combined for 11 jumbo fluke to over 8 lbs doing the damage on Viper spoons tipped with small whole squid. Mr. Pak had his limit of jumbo fluke while Bob from Ct had a full limit of jumbo fluke on jigs/buck tails tipped with squid/speraing combos. Mr. Pak was pleased with his full limit of Jumbo fluke while Mike and Lou from southern Rhode Island teamed up for ten good fluke to take home with the green mylar flies and magic bus spro doing the trick for them. A few handfuls of sea bass mixed in as well but nothing enormous in that department. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's fluke/cbass combo leaving at 7 am aboard the Gail Frances.

Capt. Mike and Capt. Paul both reported the fluke fishing along the beaches has been excellent with a nice mix of keepers to 7 lbs and plenty of shorts to keep anglers glued to the rails. Quite a few good size sea bass up to 3 lbs mixed in as well with some anglers taking home upwards to five and six sea bass apiece, even on the half days!! In fact one angler yesterday had ten keeper sea bass on the half day!!! The half days and full day 8 to 3 boats are all sailing tomorrow as scheduled.

update July 1
Capt. Mike reported an excellent day of fishing aboard the 8-3 full day fluke boat today. Steve from Tampa, Florida who was here on vacation was pleased with his limit of jumbo fluke to 9 lbs he tallied by 11 am!! Way to go Steve!! Joe Hyman, longtime regular customer from Boston Mass was pleased with his 5 jumbo fluke he took home including a brace of 7 lb slabs. Lou from West Warwick was pleased with his fluke to 7 lbs. Most anglers also went home with a sea bass or two or three.Capt. Mike would like to thank the small group of anglers aboard for persevering through some trying and anomalous weather conditions for early July. Where is summer ??? Capt. Mike was elated with the good fishing in local waters and looks forward to tomorrow's 8 am full day trip slated to sail aboard the Admiral Frances.

Capt. Rich reported the 7 am full day fluke/sea bass trip produced decent results. A nice mix of big fluke and some sea bass. The best bite was early on before the weather really went down hill. Mrs. Jung was happy with the five good size fluke she put on ice today. Capt. Rich looks forward to another good day tomorrow aboard the Gail Frances departing at 7am.

Capt. Keith reported the AM 1/2 trip was okay despite some torrential downpours and gusty winds but the anglers aboard did manage a few good size fluke and sea bass. Next 8 am half day sails tomorrow morning aboard the Lady Frances. Today's 4pm to 8pm trip is canceled due to the early summer monsoon conditions.

8-3 update June 29/30
Capt. Mike reported very respectable fishing aboard the 8-3 fluke boat the last two days. Sin, longtime regular customer and exceptional fluke angler from Queens, went home with 4 jumbo fluke to 8 lbs yesterday. Capt. Mike reported it was a nice steady pick all day long on Monday. A nice bunch of sea bass as well. On Tuesday the action started rather quiet but ended with a big bang!! The last couple hours featured some top notch fluke fishing with lock and load action. A nice slug of keepers in the mix as well. Pak from Queens, undoubtedly one of the best fluke anglers who fishes with us took the pool today with a fine 7lb slab. A nice bunch of sea bass once again today as well. This season has featured the most keeper sea bass we have ever seen fishing along the south shore beaches.

Several limits with longtime regular Roger from Bristol, CT getting his limit of jumbo fluke to 7 lbs. A bunch of keeper sea bass as well to go along with the nice size fluke. Look for a report a bit later today about today's outing.

Sunday June 28th
Capt. Mike reported the local fluking on the beach was very good. An even bigger increase in the number of keepers with most anglers going home with enough fresh fluke for a hearty dinner or two. Some lock and load action with the short fluke to keep anglers busy at the rails. Just a handful of good size sea bass. The biggest fluke was 6.5 lbs. Capt. Richie reported a fair day of fluking and sea bass fishing. Fluke to 7 lbs and sea bass to at least 4 lbs were taken and anglers went home with enough fresh fish for a few good meals. Capt. Richie reports seeing some bait show up on the offshore fluke grounds and feels the action will pick up the pace very soon.

June 28 8-12 update
Capt. Don reported half day fishing was good today. We would like to thank the Lion's club for coming out and sharing the morning with us. Anglers were kept busy with the fluke and the end result was some nice slabs to 7 lbs along with a handful or two of good size sea bass to nearly 3 lbs.

June 28 Squid/Striper/PM 1/2 update
Capt. Paul was pleased to report the squid fishing continues to hold up, fascinating for so late in the year. The bite started a bit slow but built as the night went on and was very good during the last hour. Mixed sizes but still some good size tubes with angelrs averaging 1/3 to 1/2 a five gallon bucket. The finfishing was a bit slower than usual on this outing with a handful of nice sea bass, big scup and one keeper fluke early on and then it slowed up, however it was also observed that no one had cut up any of their fresh caught squid either. We will try another squid/bottom fish combo trip for next Saturday Night leaving at 7pm by reservation. The protocol the last few weeks is to do a drift or two for fluke and then when its dark we anchor up and squid fish but if one wishes to fish for bottom fish while anchored up they are more than welcome to do so.

June 27 7-4 update
Capt. Rich reported another solid day of fishing aboard the 7am full day jumbo fluke/sea bass trip. A nice slug of big sea bass late in the day in addition to a steady pick of good size fluke. Ronnie from Providence was pleased with his fine looking batch of Jumbo fluke to 5.5 lbs and good size sea bass to 3 lbs that he caught fishing whole squid. Cathy Williams from New Jersey was pleased with her pool winning 8 lb slab. Capt. Rich looks forward to another day on the fluke and sea bass grounds tommorrow, the Gail Frances will set sail at 7am. Capt. Ray reported the Striped Bass fishing was slow last night. Striped Bass fishing expands to Wed,Thurs, Fri and Sat night schedule this coming week. Capt. Don reported last night's PM 1/2 trip was hilighted more by some jumbo sea bass to 4 lbs than the fluke although to be sure some were taken. Next PM 1/2 trip sails this afternoon at 4pm aboard the Admiral Frances.

June 27 8-3 update
Capt. Mike reported a great group of anglers came out today on the 8am full day fluke trip. The action was decent despite almost no drift the entire day. Fluke up to 6.5 lbs and a few good size sea bass pleased anglers. Next 8am full day fluke trip is set to sail tomorrow morning aboard the Admiral Frances.

June 27 midday update
Capt. Don reported the Nelson Carreiro charter was a success today. After beating on the fluke for a while the anglers abaord did a few drifts over the rough bottom and loaded up on large and jumbo sea bass up to 4 lbs. Biggest on the fluke was around 4 lbs. Still some open weekend dates for chartering the Capt. Frances this summer. The Capt. Frances is the perfect vessel for groups of 10 to 30 anglers. If interested in booking a charter, kindly call the office for pricing details and availability. Capt. Kieth reported lots of action on this morning's half day AM trip with plenty of fluke to keep anglers busy at the rails and a few slammer sea bass to 4 lbs as well. Biggest fluke was around 5 lbs.

4-8 update June 26
Capt. Mike reported a very light crowd enjoyed a beautiful evening on the water with plenty of action thanks to all the fluke that seem to be lining the south shore beaches just about anywhere one goes. To be sure some keepers to 5 lbs were taken and a couple nice sea bass as well amongst the shorts. Sea robins also have been adding to the excitement recently and some are real trophies in the 2-3 lb range. Id also like to mention that there is plenty of room on tomorrow night's scheduled squid trip. This trip features the opportunity to jig for squid or fish bottom for other finfish such as scup and sea bass and fluke. These trips will continue for awhile on Saturday Nights provided there is enough interest. Anglers on the day fluke trips have been snagging some squid on occasion and the fluke are still loaded with them so we know for sure they are still in the near shore waters. Remember that last week one angler caught over 100 squid on the Saturday Night trip.

Friday 7-4 update June 26
Capt. Rich reported it was a beautiful day on the water and the fishing was not half bad either with a slow but solid and steady pick of big fluke to 7.5 lbs and sea bass to just over 5lbs. Some anglers went home with several good size fluke and sea bass apiece. One jumbo scup as well as a couple blue fish. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow's 7am full day trip aboard the Gail Frances.

Friday 8-3 update June 26
Capt. Mike reported another good day along Rhode Island's local south shore beaches. There were some tough drifting condtions today and once again the fluke required a deft touch to wrangle in at times but the anglers aboard persevered. Eben York and Dan Konkol had a productive day putting 7 nice fluke to 6 lbs in their cooler along with a nice bunch of sea bass to 2.5 lbs plus a good size hard fighting ocean bluefish. Dan and Eben had their sucess using double spro jig combinations. Just about everyone on the boat today had keeper fluke to take home and the majority had a sea bass or two as well. One angler once again nailed 6 fine keeper sea bass to 2.5 lbs to go along with his fluke and once again he caught all his fish on the tandem bait rig. Plenty of shorts to keep things interesting as well today. No monsters today but a respectable number of fish in the 5-6 lb range with the largest around 7lbs. Capt. Mike looks forward to tomorrow's full day fluke trip set to sail at 8am aboard the Admiral Frances.

Thursday evening update June 25
Capt. Rich reported a solid day of fishing on the 7am fluke/sea bass combo with a nice mix of both big fluke to 7 lbs and sea bass to 4 lbs today. Next 7am fluke/sea bass combo sails tomorrow morning aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Paul just returned from a very enjoyable PM 1/2 trip this evening. Drifting conditions were ideal and the weather was sunny and pleasant, perhaps the nicest fishing day in weeks! Anglers enjoyed fast and furious action with the fluke along the beach although just a handful of keepers to 5 lbs were taken. Only one nice sea bass tonight. The 4pm to 8pm 1/2 trip is a great opportunity to enjoy what is often the nicest part of the day on the water. Next PM 1/2 trip will set sail tommorrow afternoon aboard the Admiral Frances.

Thursday 8-3 update June 25
Capt. Mike was once again quite content with the local full day fluke fishing along the south shore today. Slower drift conditions caused some especially cagey behavior from the fluke but anglers still put some very nice fish in the boat. A good haul of quality fish in the 5 to 7 lb range today with the biggest brought to the net by Wille from Bayside, NY with a fine 7.75 lb slab. One angler today had his limit of big fluke to 6 1/2 lbs and took home 6 nice sea bass as well. He caught most of his big fluke and sea bass fishing a tandem bait rig with just one or two small spearing on each hook. In addition to the big fluke the other big story on the 8 to 3 boat over the past week has been the excellent numbers of good size sea bass. In fact Walter from Wallingford Ct had a double header of 3 lb sea bass today which went along nicely with his fluke over 5 lbs. A good number of other anglers had several nice sea bass apiece to take home in addtion to their big fluke. Pleny of shorts today as well keeping anglers busy at the rails. A few big squid jumped all over the fluke baits as well and all the fluke coming aboard are LOADED with big squid indicating a tremendous amount of feed on the beach. Due to the slow drift today the top producers were hi lo spro jigs or hi lo bucktails. A lot of big fluke were dropped today as well. We are now in the time of season when things are really starting to explode on the beach and the next six or seven weeks should feature some very exciting fishing. Capt. Mike looks foward to another good day of fishing tomorrow morning as the Admiral Frances is set to sail at 8am.

Wed evening June 24
Capt. Don called in to say this evenings PM 1/2 trip produced a nice mix of keeper and short fluke providing plenty of action but the big story was the number of jumbo sea bass taken by anglers, including a couple 5 lb humpbacks! Doug from Ct was pleased with his keeper fluke and several jumbo sea bass to 5 lbs. The 4pm to 8pm trips sail daily. Next one out is tomorrow evening at 4pm aboard the Admiral Frances.

Wednesday June 24 6pm update
Capt. Rich reported a decent day on the 7am to 4pm Fluke/Sea bass combo. Anglers had a slow pick of good size fluke, a very slow drift kept things from being really hot but at the day's end a lot of nice fish were brought to the net. Mrs. Jung was hi hook with 5 big fluke to take home including the pool fish of 9.5 lbs. A handful of big sea bass to nearly 5 lbs as well today. Spro jigs and small smiling bill bucktails were the hot producers today. Capt. Rich looks foward to the next 7am full day trip tomorrow morning aboard the Gail Frances.

June 24 afternoon 8-3 update
Capt. Mike was jubilant about the fishing along Rhode Island's south shore today. It was a two drift day!! Thats right just two very long drifts with anglers into non stop action from start to finish. Today was the best for numbers and sizes so far along the beach. A small group of anglers enjoyed some of the best fishing the beach has to offer today with a few anglers going home with 5 keepers apiece including one fellow who went home with five big fluke including four of which were in the 5 to 7 lb range. Wayne from West Springfield had the day's biggest fish with a slab of just over 9 lbs, cuaght on a rental rod. Everyone went home with a nice bunch of fillets for the table today. With size and numbers together both Capt. Mike and Roger agreed this fishing rivals some of the best ever seen along the local beaches. A nice bunch of sea bass up to 3.5 lbs today as well. All terminal gear was working well however the tandem bait rig was especially hot and whole squid was generating a lot of interest. Capt. Mike looks forward to the next full day fluke trip tomorrow morning at 8am aboard the Admiral Frances.

Wednesday afternoon June 24
Capt. Don reported a great morning 1/2 day along the beach with anglers into non stop action on the fluke. The small group of anglers ended up with a nice mess of big fluke to take home with sizes to 6 lbs. One lone 5.5 lb slob sea bass as well. Capt. Don reported only making two drifts and anglers catching the whole way on both of them. Next 8am half day sets sail tomorrow morning aboard the Lady Frances.

Tuesday afternoon June 23rd
Capt. Mike reported the past two days aboard the 8am to 3pm boat featured steady fishing with a good slug of keeper fish to 7 lbs both days and plenty of shorts to keep anglers busy and at the rails. Once again a pleasant bonus in the form of some respectable numbers of keeper sea bass with a few jumbos in the mix and the best approaching 3 lbs. Capt. Mike looks forward to the next 8am full day fluke trip set to sail tomorrow morning aboard the Admiral Frances.

Tuesday afternoon June 23rd
Capt. Don spoke of some good half day morning fishing over the past two mornings. On Monday youngster Evan Millar, whos father originates from South Kingstown, had the biggest fluke with a fine 6.5 lb slab. On Tuesday morning anglers caught a good number of nice fluke to 5 lbs. A few sea bass have also been mixed in the catch recently. Next AM 1/2 trip is set to sail tomorrow morning at 8am aboard the Lady Frances.

Tuesday afternoon June 23rd
As I just walked into the office I was informed of the very good fishing aboard the 7am Fluke and Sea bass boat before the weather got really tough on Sunday. Anglers did very well with the big fluke and some slammer sea bass. Dan Melino for example was elated with his 6.7 lb 26 inch black sea bass to go along his full limit of big fluke. The biggest fluke for the trip was a fine slab of 9 lbs. Understandably Monday and Tuesday were lost to the weather but tomorrow the 7am to 4pm trip is back on schedule set to sail aboard the Gail Frances with Capt. Rich.

Sunday afternoon June 21 update
Capt. Mike called in to say the fishing was currently productive along the south shore beaches of Rhode Island today. Capt. Mike reported the drift was very, very quick but that anglers had already picked up a nice bunch of big fluke up to 7 lbs and once again some very good numbers of sea bass with some real brutes today approaching the 4 lb mark. Capt. Mike looks forward to tomorrow's full day inshore fluke trip departing at 8am aboard the Admiral Frances.

Sunday Noon update June 21
Capt. Don was pleased with the first AM half day trip of the summer season. Anglers had a mixed bag of nice fluke and sea bass they could keep and a bunch of fluke they could not keep but kept the pace nice and steady. Largest fluke for the day was a 4.5 lb jumbo. Capt. Don was pleased with the results considering the incredibly fast drift and very windy conditions. This afternoon's 4pm to 8pm trip has been cancelled due to the very windy weather. For Monday the 7am to 4pm offshore fluke/sea bass boat is cancelled due to the weather. However we will run the AM half day from 8am to Noon and the full day inshore fluke boat from 8am to 3pm.

Sunday morning update June 21st
Capt. Don reported that the skeleton crew of anglers enjoyed some respectable squid fishing last night. One angler caught over 100 squid himself!! Mixed sizes but still some good size tubes to be had. In addtion anglers who tried for bottom fish caught a nice mix of big scup, large and jumbo sea bass, and some good size fluke to 5 lbs and even a 7lb blue fish. This time of year there is a lot of life on the beach and this trip is a great opportunity to catch a nice mixed bag of not only the squid but assorted good eating finfish. As far as targeting the finfish, nothing will work better than some fresh caught squid, it iw well worth sacrificing one or two!! We would like to continue squid fishing Saturday Nights at 7pm. Squid fishing does require mandatory reservations. Capt. Don commented once again that by later in the night the squid were so thick on the surface that one could walk on them!! The surface was a solid sheet of white with squid. Next squid trip is set to sail this coming Saturday Night at 7pm.

Sat afternoon 5pm update June 20
Capt. Rich reported a good turnout of anglers came out to enjoy the flat calm seas and balmy temperatures today. Capt. Rich reported it was strictly about QUALITY today. There was no drift and therefore a slower pick but they were mostly jumbo fluke with some shorts in the mix. The pool winner today tipped the scales at 11 lbs and the runner up was another fine double digit fish just over 10 lbs. There were several other fish in the 8 to 9 lb range and about two dozen others over 6lbs on the boat. A few anglers managed several keepers apiece with hi hook taking home 5 big fluke. No sea bass to speak of today, just a couple small blue fish. Next 7am fluke/sea bass trip is set to sail tomorrow morning aboard the Gail Frances.

Saturday afternoon update 4pm June 20th
Capt. Mike was once again pleased to report back on today's local fluke trip. A lot of quality fish in the 4.5 to 6 lb range were boated today with a few larger specimens to 7.5 lbs taken. A pleasant surprise was also the excellent number of nice size sea bass to nearly 3lbs which flew over the rails today. In fact a good number of anglers had 4 to 6 keeper sea bass apiece to take home in addtion to their fluke. Longtime 8am to 3pm regulars Paul Sr., Paul Jr., and Ronnie from Providence had a great day with Paul Sr. taking pool honors with a fine 7.5 lb slab, one of his 4 big fluke in his cooler. Ronnie and Paul also had several jumbo fluke apiece and several sea bass apiece to take home. The top producers today by far were either whole squid or hi lo rigs with mylar flies tipped with squid and spearing. Plenty of short fluke to keep all anglers busy at the rails. What is more impressive is that there was little or no drift all day which strongly suggests a very large body of fish in the area since little ground was covered and the results such as they were. Some platter size scup to 3 lbs as well mixed in today but no blue fish for some reason. It was a good day and all signs strongly suggest another brilliant season along Rhode Island's scenic south shore beaches. Capt. Mike looks forward to his next full day fluke outing tomorrow morning at 8 am aboard the Admiral Frances.

Friday afternoon update June 19th
Capt. Rich reported another good day of fluke fishing aboard the 7am fluke/sea bass combo. While the action was a notch down from yesterday it was still very good and most anglers went home with some nice fresh fluke fillets. A few anglers in particular did quite well. The fish were not easy to catch today with the left over swell and slightly dirty sea condtions. All nice stuff with very few shorts. Pool honors go to Christina Vasold from Bel Air, MD who took the pool with a fine 7 lb slab. Matt from New York had his limit of fine jumbo fluke all in the 4 to 5 lb range while Steve from CT had five nice keepers to 5.5 lbs to take home. A handful of nice sea bass as well today. Next 7am trip sets sail tomorrow morning aboard the Gail Frances.

Friday afternoon June 19th 4pm
Capt. Mike reported another fine day of local fishing along Rhode Island's south shore beaches today. Better sizes today with quality fish to 6 lbs boated today. Again lots of action and even a couple double headers. Some good size sea bass and a couple good size ocean bluefish went into the coolers as well today. Capt. Mike looks forward to another full day fluke trip sailing at 8am tomorrow morning aboard the Lady Frances.

Thursday afternoon update 5pm June 18th
Capt. Rich reported anglers enjoyed an excellent day of fishing on the 7am fluke/sea bass trip. Everyone went home with plenty of fish for some hearty dinners to come. Angler hilights include but are not limited to the following: Jan Michael Harvey and Andrew Nolan from Massachusetts had their limit of big fluke to 7.5 lbs by 11 am and were busy throwing big fish back the rest of the day. The hot ticket for them was the 4 to 6z Majic Bus Spro Jigs tipped with fresh bait. Several other customers were dangerously close to their individual limits as well. Biggest fish of the day was a slab that tipped the scales at just over 8 lbs. Fluke were the headliners today, hardly a couple keeper sea bass. Perhaps best news of all is that the rain held off until they were inside the harbor of refuge! Next 7 am full day fluke/sea bass trip is poised to set sail tomorrow morning aboard the Gail Frances.

Thursday afternoon update June 18th
Capt. Mike reported an action packed day of fluke fishing along Rhode Island's south shore beaches today. From start to finish anglers were busily into fluke with quite a few double headers and all terminal gear working equally well. The action today rivals that of any trip on the beach over the past several seasons and for those who wanted to stay busy this was the trip of their dreams. Nothing as big as yesterday but some really nice fish to 5 lbs came to the net. Anglers also boated a couple hard fighting ocean blues and a bunch of small sea bass including a few keepers. Next 8am full day fluke trip is set to sail Friday morning.

Wednesday evening June 17th update
Capt. Rich reported a very strong start to the 2009 fluke season today. It was most certainly a very late bite and Capt. Rich stayedd out a bit longer to keep the big fluke coming over the rails. There were a couple limit catches today and a good number of anglers had 2 to 5 keepers apiece to take home. Quite a few good size jumbos including a few in the 7 to 8 lb range and a fine 9 lb slab to take the pool honors. In addition anglers had some nice sea bass but nothing big and some hard fighting ocean blues and last but certainly not least a fine fat jumbo red hake! Quite a few shorts in the mix as well later in the trip when the fish turned on. Capt. Rich looks forward to his next trip tomorrow morning at 7 am aboard the Gail Frances.

Wendesday June 17th update 4 pm
Capt. Mike reported that the anglers came out in force today to enjoy the beautiful weather and first recreational fishing day of fluke to 2009. Some really nice size fish were taken today with the largest a fine slab just over 8 lbs in addtion to some good size sea bass and a few platter size scup. Unfortunately the action was not quite as fast as we had hoped to due almost no drift all day. During the last half hour of the trip we finally started to get a bit of movement and the fish started to respond with some nice stuff coming aboard right at the buzzer. The next few days call for some breeze so we expect things to change dramatically as there certainly is no shortage of fluke around. The fish caught today were all chock full of large and jumbo squid so there is plenty of feed in the area. Capt. Mike looks forward to tomorrows full day fluke trip leaving at 8am aboard the Admiral Frances.

Saturday morning June 13th
Capt. Ray reported a fair night of squid fishing last night with all anglers getting a fair bunch of good size squid. The squid were mostly on the surface last night and there were so many of them the surface was white with squid. Just tens of thousands of squid on the surface eating minnows and sand eels but being somewhat finicky about chasing the squid jigs. Capt. Ray and Don commented they had never seen so much squid!! Next squid trip sets sail this evening at 7pm aboard the Gail Frances. Capt. Rich is out sea bassing today so look for an update later this afternoon and check back later this weekend as Capt. Mike and Paul are out on the offshore cod grounds once again looking for a repeat of last weekend's grand slam ground fishing. Only four days to fluke!!!

Thursday June 11th 4 pm
Some great news for all those fluke enthusiasts!! With opening day less than one week away, rest assured the local beaches are literally paved with fluke!! Capt. Mike and a couple other crew members have been out doing some commercial rod and reel finding hungry fluke from the West Wall down to the breachway. In fact on a recent outing Capt. Mike had 6 fish in the 4 to 5 lb class in just 40 minutes!! An excellent mix of sizes that includes a strong slug of fish in the 4 to 7lb range on every outing. Incidental catches have recently included jumbo sea bass to over 4 lbs, hubcap scup to 3 lbs, blue fish, tatoug to just over 10 lbs and some enormous squid which have also been nailing the fluke baits. Capt. Mike cannot wait to take anglers out on the Admiral Frances. It is a shame the regulations have kept us from doing so, but fear not the wait is almost over!! This is some of the best fluke fishing Capt. Mike has seen ever along the local beaches. The fluke have been gorging themselves on squid, sand eels and spearing and anything else they can get ahold of!! Capt. Mike will be fluke fishing daily starting June 17th aboard the Admiral Frances at 8 am. Capt. Rich has also found big fluke on his past couple sea bass expeditions and he will be sailing daily as well on June 17th at 7 am aboard the Gail Frances.

Wednesday evening 5pm update June 10th
Capt. Rich reported it was a beautiful day on the water and some continued improvement in cooperation from the sea bass. Anglers caught a fairly decent number of keepers and some shorts and some anglers walked off the boat with several hearty meals. Anglers also caught and released some hubcap size scup and big tatoug. Anglers were able to keep a few of those hard fighting ocean blues. Starting this weekend anglers can keep 10 scup each provided minimum length is 11 inches. Next sea bass trip is set to sail Friday morning at 6 am aboard the Gail Frances.

Tuesday June 9th
Our next Seabass trip is scheduled for Wednesday June 10th at 6:00 a.m.

Tuesday June 9th
Squid fishing remains red hot. We will continue going for at least another week. Our next trip is Thursday June 11th at 7:00 p.m. Also, keep in mind our Striped Bass trips starts Saturday June 13th. Reservations are required.

Offshore cod update Sunday June 7th
Capt. Mike was in high spirits this evening as he walked in the office to tell the tale of an outstanding offshore cod fish outing. Cod and a good slug of pollock fast and furious with double headers commonplace. No monsters but all nice market size fish with all anglers aboard filling their bags and coolers to brim. Capt. Mike commented that for a few hours in the morning the pollock fishing was some of the best he has seen in a long time. This was a two day outing and the action was red hot both days. The cod fish and pollock were all chock full of sand eels and mackerel and herring and there were Whales and Blue fin Tuna crashing bait all over the grounds. The weather was decent and the fishing tremendous. This makes several consecutive offshore expeditions with super results. This has been the best offshore season since 2002!! Still two offshore trips left for this spring season, June 13th and June 20th, both leaving at 10pm the Friday Night before. Still plenty of room on both trips so call the office to book a rail position.

Squid Report/ Saturday Night June 6th
Capt. Ray summed up last night's squid fishing report in these words " strong finish after a slow start" . As the night progressed the fishing picked up with anglers getting upwards to a half a five gallon pail. Much more in the way of super size tubes coming over the rails during the latter part of the night. Next squid trip is set to sail this evening at 7 pm aboard the Gail Frances.

Squid Report/Friday Night June 5th
Capt. Ray reported another good night of local squid fishing with some excellent catches once again and anglers filling upwards to a full five gallon pail apiece. Light sinkers has been making a difference as has fishing different depths as the squid are often suspended. The past couple trips have seen sheets and sheets of squid all over the surface later in the evenings with some anglers even sight fishing for them. Next squid trip sets sail tonight at 7pm aboard the Gail Frances.

Seabass Update June 5th
Capt. Rich reported an okay start to the first official day of local sea bass fishing. He reported finding sea bass in all the places they should be this time of year and most anglers went home with enough for at least a hearty dinner. Sizes to just over 3 lbs. In addition anglers caught and released a bunch of fluke, black fish and slammer scup to 3 lbs. Capt. Rich looks forward to the next day of sea bass fishing tomorrow morning at 6 am aboard the Gail Frances.

Friday Afternoon June 5th
Wednesday evening 4:30 pm updateThe Frances Fleet would like to announce that we will be kicking off our sea bass season this coming Friday at 6 am aboard the Gail Frances. Cod fishing has been suspended for the time being but will resume most likely by mid September. For the next couple weeks we will be targeting sea bass Wed, Fri and the weekends until June 17th when the trip will become the sea bass/ jumbo fluke combo. Capt. Ray reported a fair night of squid fishing Sunday night. Better catches were made by anglers who fished lightest possible sinkers and varying depths. Still mostly nice size stuff. Next squid trip will set sail Thursday evening at 7pm aboard the Gail Frances.

Squid Report/ Thursday Night June 4th
Capt. Ray reported another solid night of local squid fishing. The bite started on the quiet side but built momentum as the night wore on and by the trip's end anglers had racked up some good numbers of squid. Peter and Connie Tu had a great night filling up their buckets for example. Mixed sizes but still plenty of good size tubes coming aboard. Next squid trip sails tonight at 7 pm aboard the Gail Frances. Plenty of room on Saturday and Sunday Night's trips as well so feel free to call the office to make a reservation.

Sunday May 31st 11 am
Just a reminder that there is still plenty of room on the next three upcoming offshore trips starting with a two day trip this coming weekend June 6-7, leaving Friday Night at 10 pm followed by two Georges Special's the 13th and 20th, both also leaving the Friday Night before at 10 pm. The cod fish action on the last two offshore trips was excellent and the sizes even better with fish into the mid 40's taken.
Haddock, pollock, hake were all in the mix as well. This spring season so
far has been the best in several years and we would like to keep the
momentum going. Kindly call the office to book a reservation to get in on
some of this great offshore ground fishing.

Squid /Offshore Cod Monday, May 25th
Capt. Mike reported good news from the annual Three Day Capt. Special ground fish outing. Once again anglers were treated to some very good bottom fishing. The first day featured non stop action with cod and a nice slug of haddock. A nice mix of keepers and shorts with double headers commonplace. The second day produced a nice steady pick of market and good size cod up to 20 lbs plus a few hake and all the super size ocean perch anglers could want. All anglers left with bags of fresh fillets for many fine meals to come. So far this brief offshore season has been much stronger than the past couple and we look forward to more good fishing offshore in the weeks ahead. Capt. Ray reported another grand slam squid trip last night. The sizes on these squid is just remarkable! The first two and a half hours featured non stop action with double and triple headers commonplace and by 11 pm most anglers had all the squid they wanted. The rest of the night showcased a more relaxed pick of super size tubes flying over the rails and into the pails. Kudos to superior squid angler Connie Tu who filled nearly two five gallon pails herself. A black fish estimated at 10 lbs was lost at the surface after trying to eat a squid jig and a few nice sea bass went for the squid jigs as well. Friday, Saturday and Sunday Night's featured the best squid fishing of the year for quantity and the quality of the squid throughout this season has been just uncanny. We look forward to more of this excellent squid fishing. Next squid trip will set sail at 7pm Thursday evening aboard the Gail Frances.

Saturday, May 23rd
Capt. Ray reported that the squid fishing Friday Night stayed at its frantic pace through the night with most anglers filling a five gallon pail and many working on a second. All big stuff. Last night the action was a little more relaxed but still a strong solid pick of the biggest kind of squid with anglers filling upwards to a full five gallon pail. Next squid trip will set sail tonight at 7pm aboard the Gail Frances.

Capt. Rich reported that the local cod fishing was the same yesterday as Friday. Lots of cod action just not enough keeping. A few nice fish to 10 lbs were boated and went home for some fine dining. Anglers also had plenty of good size ocean perch. This relative of the black fish family makes for superb table fare. Next cod trip is set to sail tomorrow morning at 6 am aboard the Gail Frances.

Friday May 22nd update: 830 pm
Capt. Ray just called in to report that from the moment the squid jigs went into the water the squid started flying over the rails all around the boat. Double headers were the rule and as this is being written many regulars such as Peter and Connie Tu have filled more than a five gallon bucket already and they have been fishing for less than an hour. Capt. Ray reported the action is just insane! Check back with us tomorrow for a full update on how the rest of the evening went. Capt. Rich reported some vastly improved action on the local cod grounds today compared to Wednesday. Unfortunately once again most of the healthy fat green cod fish were just shy of the legal limit and had to go back over the rails. Nevertheless anglers did manage a few keepers. A few ocean perch in the mix as well. The dogs were a bit of a nuisance today but some anglers avoided them by fishing one hook down real low to the sinker and fishing it hard on the bottom. Fishing this way will not mean one will not catch any dog fish but will greatly reduce the pesty critters from eating the clam baits meant for the cod. Capt. Rich will set sail tomorrow morning at 6 am aboard the Gail Frances.

May 22: A.M
Capt. Ray reported last night's squid fishing was only fair. Anglers did manage a slow pick of mostly good size squid through the night with the last hour providing the best pop of big squid. Peter and Connie Tu put together a good catch as did a number of other anglers but the squid were skittish and a challenge to get to t.ake the jigs. Everyone did end up with some squid. Next squid trip will set sail Friday evening at 7 pm aboard the Lady Frances.

Date Wednesday May 20th
Capt. Mike reported it was a beautiful late spring day to be out on the local cod grounds. Despite the terrific weather and balmy temperatures the cod fish proved to be somewhat elusive. To be sure a few nice green cod to 10 lbs were brought to the gaff but the action was just not up to standard. Very few short cod today too, just not much of a cod bite period. On the plus side anglers did enjoy a nice steady pick of good size red hake throughout the day and a lot of big ocean pout were taken as well. A few big ocean perch and some giant sea ravens made up the rest of the day's catch. Next cod trip sets sail Friday morning at 6 am aboard the Gail Frances.
A few of the crew members have also been out squid fishing in their own boats this past week and report the squid bite is back on so anticipation is high for tomorrow nights outing on the Lady Frances leaving at 7pm.

Monday May 18th 11:00 a.m.
Welcome to our new fishing report section. We hope you enjoy the format.

Sunday May 17th
Capt. Mike reported that the offshore 2-Day trip this past weekend met with very good success. After a slow start Capt. Mike traveled to a new area a bit further down the road and within seconds after the whistle was sounded, rods doubled over on nice size codfish. Almost exlusively all cod and quality was the theme with the majority of the fish over 10 lbs and mnay fish in the mid teens to lower 20's. A few bigger hangers up to Mike Yanelski's pool winning 42 lb brute. Nice fish Mike! Mike also had a fine 26 lb monkfish to go along with his catch of cod. A few good size pollock to 20 lbs mixed in as well. All anglers aboard went home with good to excellent numbers of good size codfish.

Saturday May 16th Cod Report
Capt. Rich reported some encouraging signs continuing with the local cod fishing. There was no shortage of cod caught on the boat today the problem was that most of them were just shy of the legal limit. The handful of customers aboard did pick a few keepers through the short cod and anglers caught plenty of big ocean perch and some good size ocean pout, both of which make excellent table fare. Some good signs of bait on the grounds as well. Longtime regular customer Ginny Reed took the pool with a fine fat green cod fish today. Next cod trip is set to sail tomorrow morning at 6 am aboard the Gail Frances.

Saturday May 15th Squid Report
Capt. Ray and one of the crew members reported that squid fishing was excellent last night with some real hot bursts of action and super size squid to 18 inches!! Some very good catches were made with a good number of anglers filling upwards to a bucket of squid. The squid were far more aggressive than last weekend. Capt. Paul on a squid charter also filed a similar report, in fact the squidding was so good his anglers called it quits with bucket after bucket filled to brimming with the tasty mollusks. Next squid trip sets sail tonight at 7pm aboard the Gail Frances.

Wednesday May 13th
Capt. Mike reported a handful of anglers turned out to enjoy some of the finest spring weather of the season this past Wednesday in search of cod fish dinner. Unfortunately while a handful of nice green fish were taken the action was a bit slower than Saturday's outing. A bunch of nice size red hake and some shorts plus the usual perch and pout but just not as many cod in the coolers as we would have liked. We remain optimistic and look forward to better cod fishing over the weekend. Next open boat cod trip will set sail at 6 am Saturday aboard the Gail Frances.

Sunday May 10th
Capt. Ray reported last night's squid trip was a tad slower than Friday Night's run. Anglers still managed to pick away at the biggest kind of squid through the night but a deft touch and finesse was necessary to put together a good catch as the squid were a bit finicky. The squid could be seen all over the place but were just hesitant to take the jigs. Still some very respectable catches were made and in addition a couple small fluke were caught and promptly released and anglers also observed scup, skates and a few nice size sea bass thus further signs that spring has sprung along Rhode Island's south shore beaches. Next squid trip will set sail Thursday Night at 7pm. Tomorrows cod trip, Monday, is canceled as well as we would like to give the sea a couple days to settle down after today's blow. Next cod trip is set to sail Wednesday morning at 6 am.

Saturday May 9th
Capt. Mike reported some improved action today on the local cod grounds. There seems to be a lot of small cod around in a number of different zones. While the keeper ratio is not quite as high as we would like things have most certainly been moving in the right direction with more nice green fish being taken. John Wills was not only hi hook on the cod today but he also took the pool with a fine fish in the teens. A few pout and nice size perch in the mix as well. Next day cod fish outing is scheduled for Monday at 6 A.M.

Squid! Squid! Squid!

Capt. Ray was pleased to report that squid fishing got off on a good note last night. Before the anchor was tight squid were flying over the rails and the majority of the squid were the biggest kind with squid in the 15 to 17 inch range common. Anglers enjoyed a slow steady pick most of the evening with the last hour or so offering a really nice shot of big squid to finish off the night. The catch varied from angler to angler but those in the know did very well filling their pails. Small fluke were seen following the squid jigs to surface on more than one occasion as well. Spring has sprung along Rhode Island's south shore beaches. Next squid trip sets sail tonight at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances

Friday May 8th
The Lady Frances will be sailing tomorrow morning for cod at 6:00 a.m. Tonight will be our first squid trip of the year, look for an update tomorrow.

Wednesday May 6th
The boats did not sail today, next scheduled trip will be Friday at 6:00 a.m. Also, keep in mind squid trips begin Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Call to make your reservations.

Monday May 4th
Capt. Mike sailed both Saturday and Sunday on the Lady Frances. Only a small group of anglers both days. The fishing had better results on Sunday with quite a few throwbacks as well as some nice green cod fish for the coolers. A few of the local charter boats also sailed this weekend and reported catching some codfish. Definitely some signs of improvement. Let's hope things are finally moving in the right direction. The last few weeks have been tough, customers and crew are ready for things to bust open. We will continue day codfish trips until mid June. We are also planning on fluke fishing very very shortly, we will keep you posted as to the start up date. The big news of the week is that the squid have shown up on the beach. We will be sailing 4 nights a week until mid June. Reservations are recommended, so be sure to call the office. Also, Capt. Don and Paul sending a special thanks to Mike Birmingham and his group from Vermont. A great bunch of guys. The crew would have liked fishing to be better for them but hopefully they had a good day of fun anyway. Next day trip for cod will be Wednesday.

Friday May 1st
Unfortunately the boats have not sailed all week due to the weather. We are planning on going tomorrow Saturday May 2nd. The Lady Frances will be pulling out of the dock at 6:00 a.m. The fishing was showing some signs of improvement last week so hopefully that is still the case. Squid fishing has bee pushed off until next weekend as there were no reports of them being in yet. Tonights offshore trip was canceled due to high winds offshore.

Monday, April 27th
Captain Don returned from a bird charter today and reported that there were several boats out on the cod grounds. After speaking to a couple of them, they reported that the cod were being somewhat more cooperative than on recent trips. News that is good to hear. Fishing has been too quiet for too long!

Sunday April 26th
The weekend was the nicest weather we have seen since last summer. It is unfortunate that everyone stayed home. The docks around the fleet looked like a ghost town. Saturdays actions was not as good as Fridays. They did have a few cod and hake as well as snow shoe flounder. Captain Frank sailed today on the Captain Frances and said that it was great to be back on the water and not in meetings or in the boat yard.

Friday April 24th
The captain of the Gail Frances called in to say that the day was a very big improvement over the last few trips out. The small group of anglers enjoyed some decent action. The action was not fast and furious but it was the best bite in a few weeks. Some hake and choggies in the mix as well. Capt. Mike said it was definately nice to see some fish coming over the rails. While not like the incredible fishing back in February, a good sign that things seem to be picking up again.

Wednesday April 22nd
No fishing today. The wind has dropped out but the seas were still pretty high, so we cancelled for the day. The next trip out is scheduled to be Friday April 24th.

Sunday April 19th
Mike returned from the offshore trip early this morning. The first of the season. A small bunch of anglers on board enjoyed quite a bit of haddock. The cod was not as productive on this particular trip.

Saturday April 18th
Captain Richie at the helm today, his first trip out for the year. Richie did quite a bit of traveling to find the elusive codfish but unforutnately did not have the results he would have liked. A couple handfuls of throwbacks and only a few keeper codfish. Some jumbo size perch in the mix. We can only hope for things to improve with the warm weather coming in.
