Capt. Rich reported a tough day of local cod fishing. The unmentionables were a force to be reckoned with today. Thank you three days of East and Northeast wind. Desptie the very challenging conditions anglers did manage to pick a few nice fish. Longtime regular Gardy from Fairfield Cty CT was hi hook with three cod to 12lbs. Nothing over 15lbs today. The cod bite once again was super soft and the cod were not coming back most of the time if you did miss one. Rest assured the cod are definitely there. A handful of ocean perch, a couple impressive blue fish and one lone sea bass and that was all she wrote for today. One low hook with just bait was the only way to go over the past three days, some anglers continue to use plastic teasers and rubber squids etc with hooks sometimes several feet above the sinkers and the results are still unchanged regarding the unmentionables and if you are lucky a big bluefish. This time of year it is always the same protocol of bait on hooks, when the water cools down and certain parameters change then the higher hooks with all the fancy bells and whistles start to have their moment in the sun. Capt. Rich will look forward to getting back out after the cod in the nice weather and different wind direction forecasted for Wednesday with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am.
Capt. Chris reported it was another great day of Porgy fishing with lots of nice scup and a nice mess of good size sea bass and a few blue fish. Capt. Ray looks forward to another good day of Porgy fishing on the Admiral Frances which will be ready to set sail at 8am.
Look for an fresh very late season Fluke report sometime later tomorrow or Wednesday.
