Capt. Rich reported a very late but VERY STRONG bite on the local cod grounds today. Anglers chipped away at a few nice cod and a nice mixed bag of jumbo sea bass and big porgies and some nice blue fish until just after noon when the big green cod showed up and starting bending rods up and down and all around the boat but especially in the bow and stern today. Angler hi lights include but are NOT limited to the following: Adam from Ansonia CT who is a regular on the summer fluke/sea bass trips and has just recently gotten into cod fishing had 7 fine cod up to the pool winning 35lb hanger plus Scott had a few big sea bass and slammer scup to go along with his fine catch of cod. Scott caught six of his seven cod on the last drop most of his fish were in the 8 to 12lb range. Mike from NYC, longtime regular customer was hi hook today with ten nice cod up to at least 20lbs with most of his cod in the 8 to 15lb range and Mike got 9 of his cod on the last drop!! Two other anglers in the stern combined for around a dozen nice cod to 27lbs plus a pile of big blue fish and a bunch of nice porgies and big sea bass. Adam and Melissa from Berlin CT combined for a half dozen nice cod up to 20lbs and a nice pile of big sea bass to 4.5lbs and platter size scup to 3lbs. Cote who just returned back to work at the Frances Fleet after a brief absense put two big green cod in the boat in short order including a fish just over 20lbs. Better numbers of big sea bass up to over 5lbs today along with quite a few porgies to 3lbs and a lot of big blue fish up to 12lbs complimented the cod catches. Quite a few ocean perch mixed in as well. One hook down low by the sinker once again was the way to go and most of the cod were caught straight up and down today. We will be posting some pics courtesy of Kyle Blount today. Capt. Rich looks forward to tomorrow’s good weather forecast and more good fishing with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am.
