Capt. Mike reported an excellent day of black fishing today on the Lady Frances. There were quite a few limit catches and many other anglers who were not far behind. Biggest tog was just under 9lbs and there was once again a tremendous number of short tog to keep the anglers busy during the tog trip. A handful of nice green cod today to compliment the best catch of tog since last Sunday. The water was more cleaned up today as well and that probably made quite the difference. A great day on the water with great fishing and excellent weather! Capt. Mike looks forward to another nice and mild day on the water with the Lady Frances set to sail at 6am for tog.
Capt. Rich reported another very enthusiastic turnout of anglers for the cod and sea bass today. The sea bass fishing was great with many limit catches and a lot of really nice big sea bass in the three to four pound range with the biggest close to six pounds! In fact that nearly six pound sea bass took the pool today!! There was also a lot of jumbo scup today with many anglers easily limiting out on good size scup to nearly 3lbs. Unfortunately the cod kept an even lower profile today with just a handful of keepers and nothing big at all. The piles of big sea bass and jumbo porgies certainly helped fill the cod void today and there was also a tremendous amount of the biggest kind of ocean perch with many of the perch over a pound. These smaller members of the black fish family are one of the best eating fish that swims in these waters! In fact Roger had commented on not seeing so many big perch on the rock piles since back in the mid 90’s! A nice bunch of ling today as well as a couple of Christmas eels to top things off. Quite a few throwback cod in the mix as well which is something we always like to see. Perhaps best of all was the fact that there was hardly a single dog fish to be found!! The weather was warm and calm and for the first time in quite some time we were able to drift at the day’s end. Capt. Rich looks forward to a new day tomorrow and we will set sail out after cod and sea bass at 7am aboard the Gail Frances. A few pics today appearing above the report are courtesy of Roger.
