Capt. Cory just relayed word that the local cod fishing was very good today for the light crowd of anglers aboard. The fish were not as spread out as we would have liked but there were at least two limit catches and a number of anglers who had several nice market cod apiece to take home. Biggest fish was around ten pounds and both bait and jigs were effective and limit catches were made with both. A big number of short cod kept the anglers busy in the frigid January temps today while at the heated rails of the Lady Frances. In addition to the cod there was also a tremendous amount of mackerel on the cod grounds and some people jigged up as many as two dozen of the smaller members of the tuna family. A couple more cod and one lone tog around 5lbs that was released to fight another day on a quick stop right outside the gap on the way back and that concludes the report for today. Capt. Mike will be ready to set sail tomorrow on the Lady Frances at 5am for Cod. A couple pics appear above today’s report courtesy of Cory and Kris Konkol.
