Capt. Mike reported the gorgeous mild early February weather brought out the cod enthusiasts in force today. The fishing was okay but definitely a bit relaxed from yesterday’s pace. A good number of fish were put into the bags and coolers today by day’s end but we would have certainly liked to have seen a few more fish to go around for the group as a whole. Once again the same portion of the boat caught better ( mid ship to the bow). A decent number of anglers fishing there had three to five cod apiece to take home. Longtime regular customer Tom Mackey for example took the pool with a nice green cod in the low to mid teens and had four other nice fish to go along with the pool winner. Scott from Ansonia, also a longtime regular had four nice cod to take home while two other regulars from NYC had 9 nice cod in their cooler by day’s end. It was almost 100 pct bait today that was the cod’s downfall although at the end of the day one angler did jig up three nice fish. Quite a few mackerel today coming up with the cod fish as well. We are still marking tremendous amounts of bait from just outside the gap to well south and east of Block Island. The cod fish also seem to be spread out over quite a large area right now as well and as things continue to cool off the body of fish will likely become more heavily grouped in one or two areas. A few pics provided courtesy of a local cod enthusiast and Capt. Mike once again looks forward to getting out after the Winter King tomorrow with the Lady Frances set to sail on Super Bowl Sunday.
