Capt. Mike reported a very good day of local codding overall in some astoundingly beautiful mid February weather. There was nary a breath of wind and air temps into the low 50’s at least this afternoon to compliment a really fast pick of fat green market cod, even some double headers!! A handful of anglers limited out just on the last anchor set!! Needless to say the incredible weather brought out a nice group of cod enthusiasts today and as one could imagine there were many good catches made. At least a half dozen limits today and quite a few anglers that were not far behind. There were some anglers that did not fare quite as well today but the majority went home with at least a few cod apiece and most had more than that. A few angler hi lights include a group of 4 anglers from Palmer Mass who combined for just under 30 nice fat keeper cod to 10lbs (most of them on the last stop!) while Dan from Carmel NY went home with 8 nice cod and one jumbo mackerel and Joe from Cumberland had 7 nice cod (all on the last drop!) to add some heft to his cooler. Mike and his friend from LI, longtime weekly regulars both easily limited out today as well, generally all on the last anchor set as well and so on. A number of cod vying for the pool in the ten to twelve pound range but generally just all nice green fat as could be market cod. Just a few ocean pout and an occasional Christmas Eel and a couple nice size ocean perch mixed in with the cod. Most of the fish were on bait today although the iron did show some promise later today in the hot bite and one angler jigged up at least a half dozen fish. Some nice mackerel and a few herring being snagged as well from time to time. The cod fish continue to be fat as footballs just loaded with herring mackerel and sometimes the clams we use to catch them. Some pics today courtesy of a local cod fanatic and Capt. Mike is also looking forward to the great weather forecast for tomorrow and getting back out on the local cod grounds with the Lady Frances set to sail at 5am.
