SUNDAY AFTERNOON FEBRUARY 19TH 2012, A LITTLE BETTER TODAY…..

The word from the Lady Frances was of slightly improved cod fishing today. There were two distinct flurries of fish with one in the morning and then another late in the day in another area. It was still not enough fish to go around but there were a number of anglers who had two keeper cod apiece to take home today and one guy had three keepers. A few handfuls of shorts, a few ocean pout and a couple Conger or Christmas Eels, some good size ocean perch including a few real monsters! A couple nice market pollock and a few sea ravens, some mackerel and one pin whiting rounded out the day’s catch. Certainly a wide variety and it was substantially improved from the last two days. Most people left with something for dinner anyways. A few pics from the team cod enthusiast to showcase a few angler hi lights today. The weather was just awesome today as well with almost no wind and balmy temps by late morning, as the year without a winter just rolls on. Presidents Day Cod fishing trip will set sail on the GAIL FRANCES tomorrow morning at 5am with Capt. Mike. Cory will have the office open around or just after 4am for check ins, ticket sales and tackle purchases. The weather is sounding just fine for tomorrow. Outside of the mackerel on jigs, teasers and mackerel rigs ALL of the ground fish today were taken on bait despite some valiant jig efforts from several anglers and ideal drift jig conditions today.
