Capt. Mike spoke of another slow day on the local cod grounds. We actually had about the same amount of fish as yesterday but with fewer anglers today so it certainly did not get any slower but we will call it status quo. Nothing major for size with the best around ten pounds. The cod were not at all easy to catch today as the bite was incredibly soft and the cod seemed to show a distinct preference for the bait to be hard on the bottom almost with a bit of slack in the line. Troy was hi hook with four nice keepers and another angler managed to ice three good ones. The past two days very few cod were taken on the metal with bait far outproducing for the fish managed. More in the way of short cod caught today and once again there were a couple of stops where the anglers aboard just bailed the biggest kind of ocean perch. One angler had at least fifteen big ones including a half dozen in the 2lb range. The biggest perch were easily between 2.5 and 3lbs!! A couple were the length of legal togs!! More and more anglers are keeping them and this angler cannot say enough good things about the fine table fare they are capable of producing. A handful of hakes today as well. Some pics provided courtesy of a local cod enthusiast. The remarkable stretch of weather continues tomorrow and most of the week. Capt. Mike will be ready to set sail at 5am aboard the Lady Frances and the office will be open at 4am for check ins.
