Roger was elated to relay information after conferring with Capt. Frank that we will be starting the combo trip early this year with our first trips set to sail next Friday and Saturday Nights at 7pm. This trip will be an opportunity to explore all the beach has to offer anglers before and after dark. Anglers will generally be fishing for fin fish and squid on these outings with the general program being to start with a drift or two for fluke( probably two as we are in a period of maximum daylight over the next several weeks) and then switch over to bottom fishing for porgies and sea bass after dark. If anglers would like to fish for squid they could most certainly take advantage of that option as some good catches of squid have been made into mid July after dark on these outings. Roger has tested this fishing out extensively over the past four years this time of year on the night squid trips and has caught just about every type of fish swimming along the beach. Roger recommends trying to catch a few fresh squid for bait to maximize success at this time of year with the porgies and sea bass after dark. Squid strips and spearing will be provided. Any other types of bait an angler may want to bring can be purchased in Capt. Tackle before the trip sails. This trip will require reservations and payment in advance. Some of the best near shore scup and sea bass fishing that Roger has ever witnessed has occurred after dark on these night trips. This year we are fortunate to have the scup and sea bass open on the earlier side and with rather generous bag limits, same for the fluke as well so the possibilities on these outings are abundant.
Capt. Mike relayed word of good fishing again today on the full day fluke boat with a more customary turnout of enthusiastic fluke warriors today. Results were mixed around the boat with the slow drift conditions favoring the hi lo spro crowd for numbers and sizes. Biggest fish for the day pulled the needle down to the 8lb mark and there were several others in the 7lb range fighting it out for the pool before the 8lbr popped out of the fella’s cooler. A good number of other “jo” fish over 4lbs today as well. Plenty of nice sea bass thrown back today as well. Well only four more fishing days before they get to stay!! A few blue fish today to add some spice to the mix with a couple of them threatening the mid teens!! Blue fish can be quite a hoot on fluke tackle, just remember to take it easy and walk the fish up and down the boat as instructed per the mates to minimize tangles. The weather today was a “10”!! Tomorrow’s forecast is for more of the same so come on down as the Lady Frances will be set to sail at 7am with Capt. Chris.
