Capt. Frank Blount was at the helm of a private crew trip today and the target was cod and the target was easily achieved. A few hours spent sampling a couple local spots proved very productive. Hi hook honors went to Christine Blount who really put on a cod clinic, icing 8 nice cod to 15lbs in short order!! Way to go Christine!! Both bait and jigs were effective and both anchoring and drifting worked. Capt. Frank was very pleased with what he saw and he may even be doing a bit more scouting around in the weeks to come so stay tuned! In addition to the great catch of cod which included a nice mix of dark and green fish, the trip also turned up a nice bunch of red hake including some real base ball bats in the 3 to 4lb range plus a few jumbo sea bass, some super size ocean perch and a conger eel. Not a single dog fish and these skinny water cod were full of fight making for some great sport! Capt. Frank was also out a few days before fishing a few other local spots and was very pleased with the cod fish action that he found quickly getting a nice bunch of market size fish. Some pics today provided courtesy of Christine Blount. Open boat cod trips will start Saturday September 15th.
Capt. Rich and Capt. Matt reported an okay day on the 7am full day boat today. A nice 9lb slab took the pool and there were three other nice slabs in the six to seven pound range taken along with a fair pull of other keeper fluke and decent size sea bass plus some blue fish. While the fishing was perhaps slightly improved overall from yesterday, it is still a bit off from what we have gotten used to experiencing over the past three weeks. Hi hook had four keeper fluke today. Capt. Rich looks forward to more great weather tomorrow and the Gail Frances will be set to sail at 7am.
Beautiful weather but just a few fluke and sea bass today on the first two half days. Tomorrow features three half day outings, with trips leaving at 8am, 1pm and 4pm.
