Capt. Rich and first mate Chris L reported that they went exploring today and found some truly big fluke for the great turnout of enthusiastic fluke and sea bass anglers today on the Gail Frances. The pool fish was just under 11lbs and there were at least six other big fish between 8 and 9.5lbs and at least another 30 or so in the jumbo category over 4lbs. WOW!!!!! A big mess of hefty sea bass up to 4lbs, a few nice scup, a handful of blue fish, a red hake, a Striper of 31 inches, and last but CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, a fine fat green cod fish in the mid teens!! That is right folks a fine fat green cod in the mid teens on open broken bottom in only 80 feet of water!! The cod fell victim to a pink spro jig reported Capt. Rich. The fluke in general fell victim to more spros than anything else today and those who are in the know with working the spros really crushed the fluke today with several limits and one angler catching 13 big fluke (orl)!! The bait rigs did not fare nearly as well and caught far fewer fluke but did decent with the big sea bass. Still plenty of big fluke and sea bass around, just have to get them to chew! Tomorrow is a new day and Capt. Rich will set sail at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.
Roger reported an amazing turnout of enthusiastic half day fisher persons on the morning half day but wind against tide caused the action to be lack luster. A few handfuls of keeper fluke to 4lbs, a few handfuls of sea bass to 3lbs, and one 8lb bluefish plus some shorts was about it. The weather was awesome however. Yesterday’s 4pm half day had a nice mix of fluke and sea bass for the light crowd and the 8am trip yesterday also did about the same although a bit more on the sea bass. In general the half day fishing has been up and down but overall better than early in the week. Wind and tide conditions, when they align correctly usually make for very good fishing and increase the chances of bringing home dinner. Half day fishing schedule for Saturday is as follows: The first trip is set to sail at 8am and the second trip is set to sail at 4pm.
Capt. Matt reported the Douglas Plumbing group from Ct had a good day of fluke fishing with a nice mix of fluke to six pounds and a handful of nice size sea bass translating to nice bags of fillets. We would like to thank Douglas Plumbing for their patronage over the past several years. Still some choice late summer and fall dates available for private charters so call the office if interested for more booking details.
We will be Striper fishing tonight for the first time this week which has been hampered by a well known bait shortage. Full report to follow tomorrow morning by mid morning. Still plenty of room on tomorrow night’s Striper trip so call the office to book or book online until mid to late morning tomorrow.
