Roger reported the porgy fishing today to be quite good. While there were not any limit catches there were several anglers who were just a few shy of a full limit, a marked improvement over the past two days. All quality fish with not a single throwback!! That is right not one scup under 12 inches today!! Most were 1 to 2lbs although there was a scattering of fish upwards to just under 3lbs. Some hefty sea bass to nearly 4lbs mixed in with a few anglers bagging upwards to a half dozen nice sea bass apiece to go along with their scup. Some small ocean perch, a couple blue fish and one tatoug just shy of the legal limit. A fair amount of double headers today as well. Good fishing and we look forward to more tomorrow with Capt. Ray ready to set sail at 7am aboard the Admiral Frances. A bunch of pics today are posted courtesy of Roger.
The morning half day was reported to be very good with a nice mix of good size sea bass and good size porgies close to home. Biggest sea bass threatening the four pound mark. This wraps up the half day season for 2012. We would like to thank all of our customers who sailed with us this half day season and helped to make the summer season another great one. A couple pics today from the half day are provided courtesy Christine Blount.
Capt. Rich reported some EXTREME FLUKING CONDITIONS on today’s run with a super fast drift and anglers using sixteen to twenty four ounces to hold bottom at times! Recently Capt. Rich has been fishing an area around BI that has some tremendous tidal flow which is why the area holds so much bait and predatory fish such as the fluke and sea bass. The fluke were not as responsive to chasing down the baits today although some nice ones to 7lbs were taken with Eben York getting the 7lb slab that took the prize money and this makes three straight pool wins for Eben! Well done!! The sea bass however did have an interest in chasing down baits and some anglers did quite well with longtime regular Adam from CT taking a dozen nice sea bass home today and a good number of the other anglers aboard putting six to ten nice sea bass apiece in their bags and coolers. Nothing big on the sea bass, just nice keepers with the best of the best just under 3lbs. Some big porgies and gator size blue fish completed the 7am full day fishing picture for this Labor Day. Tomorrow is another day and Capt. Rich will be ready to set sail at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.
