Roger reported another great day with Capt. Ray aboard the Admiral Frances today with non stop up and down porgy fishing on the Block Island grounds. Double headers were commonplace and most of the scup would easily classify as jumbos with most fish 1lb or better with sizes up to 2lbs. Despite great drifting conditions the sea bass were somewhat absent today. Some nice keepers to be sure but more in the way of one to four keepers apiece to go along with the porgies as opposed to yesterday’s higher sea bass scores. One nice fluke around 4lbs, some short fluke and one nice size blue fish right at the end of the day plus two mammoth triggers and that capped off another awesome day of porgy pounding. In fact by the end of the day the vast majority of anglers were limited out and had hung up their rods for the day. A few regulars who come each year all the way from Maryland on board with us today even asked us if we might go back early as they had completely satisfied their fill of jumbo scup! Tomorrow looks like more great porgy fishing weather and Capt. Ray will be ready to set sail on the Admiral Frances at 7am. Some pics today posted courtesy of Roger.
Word from Capt. Mike and Capt. Matt was that the recent tuna trip turned up some nice Yellows in the 50 to 70lb range but despite some awesome weather, the fishing was not quite what had been hoped for. We try again tonight leaving at ten pm so another fresh Tuna report should be ready later in the day on Sunday.
Roger also wants to remind everyone that our fall cod season kicks off tomorrow. Tomorrow through Monday all sound like great days weather wise to go out looking for the brown bombers. Capt. Rich will be ready to set sail on the Gail Frances at 7am and the office will be open at 5am for ticket sales.
