Roger reported the fall cod season is off and running at the Frances Fleet. Today’s results were respectable and solid however in all honesty it was not without a few ups and downs. We tried several different areas finding fish in most places we went. The best stop of the day was the last stop of the day and Capt. Rich kindly put in a little OT to put a few more fish in the boat. A mix of dark fish and green fish today with more green fish at the last stop. Both bait and jigs were working however bait caught the lion’s share of the cod today while jigs caught the biggest. Hi hook today was Jay from Narragansett who had five nice cod including a double header of nice market cod at the last stop. Jay and longtime regular Mike T, also from Narragansett had a nice looking cooler by day’s end. Longtime regular Willie from Brooklyn NY took the pool today with a fine cod around 15lbs. The biggest cod which fell victim to the metal was in the upper teens. Some ocean perch, a few red hake, one sea bass and a few throwback pollock rounded out the day’s catch. Yes the unmentionables were unfortunately worth a mention today and as luck would have it they were the thickest where the best cod fishing was as well. Some pics today provided courtesy of Roger. Capt. Rich looks forward to some more great weather and another day out chasing the brown bombers with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am. Monday’s weather also looks dynamite before the blow coming mid week.
Capt. Ray reported a mind bogglingly good day of porgy fishing. Not many sea bass in the mix today but limits of jumbo scup to over 2lbs were easily achieved by most of the anglers aboard today. In fact many quit early again just like yesterday. The Block Island Porgy fishing is ON!!! Capt. Ray looks forward to more great action with the porgies tomorrow with the Admiral Frances set to sail at 7am.
Capt. Chris reported a remarkable half day Striper/Scup charter this morning. The anglers aboard had several nice bass and just crushed the jumbo scup with fish up to 2.5lbs. A couple keeper sea bass thrown in for good measure as well this morning. The group from Eastern Mechanical had a blast! A pic from today’s charter will be shown courtesy of Capt. Chris and that is just a fraction of the fish the anglers caught on the half day outing. Still plenty of good dates available for private charters on the Capt. Frances so if interested call the office or check out our private charters section of the web site for more booking details.
No Striper trip tonight. We will try again next Saturday Night at 7pm.
