First mate Troy reported the porgy fishing was as good as it gets with lock and load fishing for jumbo scup. Some sea bass and blue fish mixed in with the big porgies as well. Looks like another fine weather day tomorrow and Capt. Chris will be ready to set sail at 7am aboard the Admiral Frances.
Roger reported another solid cod effort with Capt. Rich on the Gail Frances today. We took a long ride in a different direction today and again found some nice green cod and a few darker ones. We did however find quite a few scup and a better than expected number of good size sea bass mixed in with the cod. In fact we had a few real bomber sea bass up to 6.5lbs today and a few anglers had as many as a half dozen big sea bass apiece. A few anglers who fished smaller baits for scup had upwards to a dozen to fifteen nice porgies apiece. For the cod, Dan Melino, longtime regular from Providence RI was hi hook with 4 nice cod including the pool fish of 15lbs. A fat green cod of 20lbs was jigged up by the same angler today who had the biggest cod yesterday also on the iron. A couple other cod on the metal today but most were caught on bait. The majority of the cod taken were nice green fish in the 8 to 12lb range. Some short cod and lots of ocean perch as well today plus some blue fish from harbor size to gator size and in between. One nice keeper fluke today as well. Just about everyone left with some nice eating fillets, even if they did not leave with a cod or two. It was a beautiful day on the water and we look forward to another one tomorrow with Capt. Rich ready to set sail on the Gail Frances at 7am. Some pics posted today courtesy of Roger.
Capt. Chris reported his full day charter today slaughtered the scup as well with just “ridiculous” fishing on big scup plus blue fish, stripers, and some sea bass to boot! The Ron Newman group was all seen departing the Captain Frances with bags and bags of fillets! Still some prime fall dates for mixed bag bottom fishing or perhaps even a cod charter, just check out our pricing on our web site under private charters and call the office to speak with Tammy, Cory or Roger to discuss further booking details.
Capt. Mike and Capt. Matt both relayed word that the latest Extended Tuna trip which came back late this afternoon was plagued by some tough wind against tide conditions and lots of tangles. Despite the tough conditions they did manage quite a few Mahi and a handful of big beautiful Yellows all in the 60 to 80lb range. Two small swords were released as well. The Yellows were caught on both jigs and chunking where as on recent trips Yellows were caught trolling, chunking and jigging. Capt. Mike did feel as though he discovered a newer body of fish just really tough conditions in which to fish them. Tonight’s trip is cancelled due to the weather but we are hopeful to get back out Wednesday evening with the Lady Frances set to sail at 10pm.
