Roger was pleased to report another very strong day of local cod fishing today on the Gail Frances with Capt. Rich despite somewhat sporty conditions. Plenty of fresh air and bright sunshine combined with comfortable temperatures and hungry cod fish and an assortment of other interested bottom dwellers made the first day of October a fine fishing day indeed. The cod bit best the first few hours of the trip and showed some sign of re interest at the end of the trip. In between plenty of slammer scup to nearly 3lbs filled the space between. A few hefty sea bass and one nice fluke (Mr. Pak of course!!) and a few spry blue fish rounded out the cod and scup catches today. Again today the unmentionables were hardly worth a mention. How nice it was to fish two hook rigs and teasers(if someone wanted to) without the fear of those dreaded things spoiling the moment. We’ll take it and hope the stay away for a long time to come! Action was all on bait today. A few people tried the iron for awhile but the cod were on the prowl for the mollusk today. Some angler hi lights include but are not limited to the following: Mr. Pak with five nice fish to 20lbs today and plenty of scup and one 22 inch fluke to make his cooler downright sharp looking while Capt. Al from Lisbon CT was pleased with his five cod to the high teens and Jay from NJ iced six nice cod into the teens to go along with a big mess of platter size scup to take up the most of the rest of the available space in his cooler topped off with big sea bass and a couple blue fish. Roger even managed to stumble across 7 nice market cod but was lucky if his biggest one was ten pounds soaking wet. Victor Antonetti from Rochester NY took the prize money today with a fine fat green cod in the low 20’s. Weather looks great for Wednesday and Capt. Rich will be ready to set sail on the Gail Frances at 7am.
Capt. Ray will be ready to set sail on the Porgy boat tomorrow morning at 7am aboard the Admiral Frances. Cory will have the office open by 6am for tackle sales and check ins.
