Roger reported a great day on the water with Capt. Rich today. A great turnout of cod enthusiasts today due to the awesome early October weather and by day’s end the cod fish had not let us down. The first part of the day saw a mixed bag of cod, scup, sea bass and ocean perch but although there were some nice green cod in the mix the overall bite was a bit lack luster so around noon Capt. Rich took a ride elsewhere and within seconds after the hook was tight, nice cod both dark and green fish began coming over the rails at a pretty steady pace. Big porgies and sea bass joined them along with a couple blue fish and it made for a darn good late inning finish on the Gail Frances. Many of the anglers on the boat quickly accumulated a nice catch of cod and other good eating bottom dwellers on the last stop alone!! There were a couple anglers who had six nice cod apiece with many of the anglers on the boat with three to five nice cod apiece in their coolers. The vast majority of the anglers aboard left with at least a cod today. Nothing big with the pool fish in the mid teens and one fish slightly bigger on the iron that was not eligible for the pool. Average size cod though was a solid 8 to 10lbs. Some anglers easily accumulated 15 to 20 big scup apiece today with hi hooks on the sea bass around a half dozen apiece. A slew of pics showcasing some of today’s angler hi lights will be posted provided courtesy of Roger. Capt. Rich will be ready to set sail tomorrow morning at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.
First mate Troy reported a great day of Block Island Porgy fishing with many limits. Lots of nice size fish with a few approaching the 2lb mark. Some nice sea bass and a few big trigger fish and one super size conger eel to top off the great catch of porgies. Capt. Ray will be ready to set sail tomorrow morning at 7am aboard the Admiral Frances.
