Roger reported today’s trip with Capt. Rich on the Gail Frances was respectable. There was no big late inning crush like yesterday and the bite in fact was more subdued. There was a decent shot of cod and a few nice pollock in the morning and one mini shot around midday but the fish unfortunately were not nearly as spread out as yesterday. Nevertheless Hi hook quickly managed four nice cod and two good size pollock while two other anglers had iced four nice cod apiece( one of those guys also having a nice pollock) and there was a decent number of other anglers who had one to three cod apiece to take home. What hurt today somewhat was that we did not have the scup and sea bass chewing like they did yesterday. In fact the porgy bite was anomolously slow. Just a few handfuls of big porgies and a handful or so of nice size sea bass today. The unmentionables were basically absent as well. There was one keeper fluke and a few nice size ocean perch. We did not have the tide outside like the porgy boat and porgy charter had a bit more inside and we feel the lack of tide was largely to blame for the slower bite today. The cod taken were mostly market size with a handful of fish in the teens with biggest of the day just under 20lbs and the three pollock were all in the low to mid teens. Dominic from CT took the pool with that biggest cod just under 20lbs and had another one in the low teens. The weather was great and the turnout of cod enthusiasts was also very nice as well today. Tomorrow is a new day and Capt. Rich will be ready to set sail at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.
The word from the scup charter today with Capt. Chris and first mate Nicky was of an all out super crush on the biggest kind of porgies to over 3lbs with only eight or nine fish to fill a bucket!! The boat was limited out and back to the dock early with all hands on board happy but a bit arm weary from the lock and load action on the slammer silver salt water panfish. Just a couple sea bass and one fluke mixed in otherwise it was all scup. We would like to thank James Grace and his group for spending the day with us and were very glad they had a great trip! Still some prime dates available for bottom fishing charters so call the office and speak to Tammy or Roger for further booking details.
The word from first mate Troy on the full day Porgy boat was of very good fishing with an average of around 30 keepers per angler. Mixed sizes but some big porgies to over 2lbs and a better showing of sea bass than the past few outings. One trigger fish and one nice fluke as well to top off a very good catch of scup today. Capt. Ray will set sail tomorrow morning at 7am aboard the Admiral Frances.
