Capt. Rich reported the weather was better than forecast today and the fish were jumping all over the baits. Lou from Niantic C, a longtime regular and exceptional rod handler had the day’s biggest fish with a fine big cod of 40lbs!! Way to go Lou!! Lou also had another big cod in the mid 20’s. Mixed in with the cod were good numbers of big scup to over 2lbs and quite a few nice size sea bass. A few anglers had upwards to 30 big porgies apiece and upwards to about ten big sea bass apiece. Biggest sea bass of at least 4lbs. One red hake and some nice ocean perch and a bunch of blue fish plus some throwback pollock and a throwback fluke to complete the species assortment for the day. Hi hooks on the cod had 3 or 4 keepers apiece today. Most of the cod caught today were nice green fish. Photo today courtesy regular customer Ron from RI. The next three days all look quite fishable for cod and the Gail Frances will be set to sail at 7am each day. Roger will have the office at 5am for tackle/ticket sales.
We will also kick off the fall Black fish season tomorrow at 6am with Capt. Mike and Capt. Matt on the Lady Frances and Capt. Ray will be set to sail at 7am for Porgies on the Admiral Frances.
