Roger was pleased to report another solid day of local cod fishing. Somewhat sporty but totally fishable conditions presented a few challenges for the anglers aboard today with the very soft bite on the cod and sea bass, however those who stood at the rail and focused persevered. A steady pick of nice green cod with most in the teens plus a good chip of sea bass up to 4lbs if not a bit bigger, along with some platter size scup to 2.5lbs and a smattering of excellent eating size blue fish kept things from being far from dull today. Hi hook on the cod iced 4 nice fish to 37lbs(not eligible for the pool) and that gentleman also dropped a fish he believed to be of comparable size 40 minutes prior. The fella never thought he get another chance to make it right this fall never mind the same day and was beyond beaming that he did. Hi hook on the sea bass had upwards to ten or so apiece. A number of other anglers aboard had two or three good size cod apiece to go along with their sea bass and porgies. Doug from New Jersey took the pool today with a fine green cod in the mid to upper teens. The bite as in the case of the past other couple days ceased by or shortly after noon time. Also of note was the number of bigger cod and sea bass today that were taken on very high hooks as this is indicating that the cod and sea bass were up off the bottom chasing the herring which have arrived on the cod grounds. While two hook rigs were a very viable option today since the unmentionables were hardly worth a mention, the best cod and sea bass scores were made with the same simple rig (dropper loop, one hook, sinker and one piece of bait at a time) employed by the rental rods. Everything was on bait today but jigs may be an endeavor well worth the excercise on the next nicer weather day, especially when drifting is an option. The weather sounds excellent for fishing on Wednesday and Capt. Rich looks forward to setting sail on the Gail Frances at 7am. A pile of pics showcasing some angler hi lights today provided courtesy of Roger.
Capt. Matt reported that today’s tog trip with Capt. Mike was excellent with just under half the boat being limited out including but not limited to Mr. Pak, Sin, and Mr. Lee to name a few. Biggest fish was 9.5lbs and there were a good number of tog at or over 6lbs. The first keeper cod of the fall black fish season made it aboard the Lady Frances today and there was also a decent amount of sea bass with those fishing clams getting as many as seven or eight keepers apiece. Quite a few short sea bass and short tog to keep the anglers busy today as well. Weather looks great tomorrow with Capt. Mike ready to set sail at 6am for tatoug and Roger will have the office open by 5am for ticket/tackle sales and online check ins.
