Another good day on the Lady Frances. Mr. Kim put the first double digit fish of the season on the deck of the Lady today with a fine slab that weighed 10.4 lbs and measured 31.5 inches!! Mr. Kim also had second place for the day with a fine slab of at least 6lbs and of course he easily bagged his limit by noon time! Well done Mr. Kim!! Anthony Mercurio from Coventry also spro’d his way to a full limit of fine fluke. The best catches today both numbers and sizes were made with the spro jigs, in fact Anthony was tipping his spro jigs with gulp grubs and using just spearing. A slower drift most of the day today until the last hour or so when the tide changed and the wind and tide became congruent. Bait rigs including the B2 Big Red Squid rig also worked just fine as well. A good sign of interest from the fluke for those who cared to dabble with whole squid. The vast majority of anglers aboard had four to six nice fluke apiece although there were a handful who had considerably less. Not quite as many shorts as some of the previous days as well but still enough to keep interest levels high at the rails. Probably at least a dozen fish in the jumbo category today (over 4lbs). It was a great day of fishing overall and Capt. Rich was very pleased by day’s end. The weather was about as good as one could ask for as well. Pics today are provided courtesy of Roger once he figures out how to upload them with his new phone. Capt. Rich is excited to set sail tomorrow on the Lady Frances at 7am for another beautiful day on the water and hopefully another double digit!!
While we have been fishing Block Island for fluke on the full day trips, we are getting word that fishing just off the local beaches is quite good which is something which bodes well for half day fishing which begins June 1st.
