The combo/squid trip is a go for tonight. There is plenty of room so if anyone would like to join us just come on down! Capt. Ray will be set to sail on the Lady Frances at 7pm.
There is not a Striper trip tonight. We hope to get out after Stripers next Saturday Night should two criteria be met that being better reports from the charter boat sector and the second being sufficient interest.
Capt. Mike and first mate Nicky reported that the Rich Dobosz group enjoyed some great late spring weather today drifting along Rhode Island’s scenic south shore beaches. Some nice keepers and shorts bent the rods today aboard the Captain Frances. A couple sea bass to an estimated five pounds made a cameo before being returned quickly and safely to the drink as well. Still plenty of choice dates for charter fishing this coming summer, especially during July and August. Full charter details are available on the web site under the private charters section or by calling the office and speaking with Tammy, Cory or Roger.
Capt. Matt reported a mix of keepers and shorts on the first AM half day trip of the season that included a couple of fine 5lb jumbos. Capt. Matt is out on the second trip right now and just sent word that one angler has already limited out on nice size fluke!! First half day limit of the season on the first day, second trip, of the half day season! Wow!! That hi hook honor went to longtime regular Anthony from Manchester CT. A handful of jumbos with the biggest slab 7lbs. The fluke were spitting up a lot of squid on the afternoon trip and while no one was fishing whole squid the long leader bait rigs far out produced the spro set ups. Rental Rods also did just fine. A lot of shorts and customers enjoyed short visits from many big brilliantly colored jumbo sea bass to an estimated 5lbs once again, keep in mind we only have to endure these short visits until June 15th. Half Day trips through the month of June are two times daily weather permitting 8am to Noon and 1pm to 5pm. Back to back half day trips taken the same day are eligible for a $15 discount off the afternoon outing. Call the office for further details if interested. Capt. Matt will be at the helm doing both outings tomorrow, Sunday June 2nd and will be ready to set sail on the Gail Frances at 8am and 1pm respectively. Half Day trips can be reserved on line as well for added customer convenience.
Capt. Rich reported a slower day over at the BI Fluke grounds. A much faster drift today made things a bit more challenging but some very good catches were made nonetheless. Connie Tu from Warwick RI, longtime regular boxed a limit of fine fluke to 5lbs using a homemade rig tipped with fluke belly and spearing. A number of other anglers iced several nice fluke apiece including longtime regular Peter Tu. A longtime regular who chose to remain anonymous grabbed the pool with a fine slab just under 7lbs. It was a tougher day for spro fishermen today in general with bait rigs generally but not in all cases doing better. Some catch and release sea bass today and quite a few but not quite as many shorts as yesterday and that was about it. A couple of pics are provided courtesy of Ginny Reed and her grandson Cole with Cole’s great catch today. Way to go Cole! Tomorrow is a new day and Capt. Rich looks forward to setting sail on the Lady Frances at 7am.
