Capt. Mike reported the big story on the morning half day trip was the jumbo sea bass. While the numbers of them were not on par with yesterday’s half day runs, the sheer size was very impressive with most in the three to four pound range with the best approaching the five pound mark! A few of the big sea bass fell to spro jigs but far and away the most productive method was simply with the rental rod set ups (plain squid/spearing combos on long leaders). A few keeper fluke and some short fluke and short sea bass, a bunch of good size sea robins and a few skate rounded out the catching for this morning’s trip. Photos today are courtesy Christine Blount. Tomorrow we sail two half days with the first leaving at 8am and the second leaving at 4pm.
First mate Capt. Cory reported the full day fishing was just okay today but the turnout of enthusiastic anglers was just wonderful and some nice slabs were put on to the decks of the Gail Frances all the same. Biggest fish was 8lbs but the lucky or unlucky angler was not in the pool and the pool was a tie of twin 6 lb slabs. It was a quality day today not a quantity day like the past few have been. Hi hooks still managed several nice fluke apiece today. A couple nice scup, blue fish and sea bass topped off the fluke catch today. Tomorrow is a new day and Capt. Rich looks forward to setting sail on the Gail Frances at 7am.
Tomorrow is also the start of our summer Porgy trips. Capt. George will be sailing the Admiral Frances tomorrow morning at 9am for a “bankers hours” scup trip from 9am to 3pm. The trip is a go with just a light crowd expected so far so there is plenty of room if anyone else would like to join. This trip will also offer anglers an opportunity to catch fluke, sea bass, blue fish and trigger fish.
