Roger was pleased to report that the summer Porgy fishing got underway today. It was a beautiful day on the water and the light crowd of anglers aboard enjoyed a pick of big scup to at least two pounds, a few nice fluke, some good size sea bass to 3.5lbs and a few exotics such as big sea robins and even a rare northern puffer ( the first one this angler had seen in some 25 years!!). Some smoothies added a little excitement as well today. Lots of and lots of short fluke today with one angler who fished just for fluke when we drifted getting two keepers out of nearly 20 fish!! The bite on the porgies was kind of soft and they were looking for baits hard down on the bottom and anchoring and drifting did not seem to make much difference. Everyone walked off the boat today with a nice bag of fish, it was just not a cooler filling kind of a day. Some pictures today provided courtesy of Roger. Next Scup trip sets sail tomorrow morning at 9am on the Admiral Frances. These summer Scup trips are planned Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays “bankers hours” 9am to 3pm. They can be booked on line or by calling the office.
Capt. Rich reported the full day boat today had a very nice comeback from the slower fishing of yesterday. A nice mess of sea bass to 4lbs and many sea bass limits all around the boat and a much much better showing of fluke as well with a good number of anglers icing several fine keepers apiece to go along with their sea bass. Hi hooks on the fluke had around a half dozen keepers apiece. Biggest fish was around 5lbs with some others around 4lbs. Nothing really big today. A few cocktail size blue fish and a few big scup rounded out the day’s catch. Capt. Matt commented that when the drift was slower today the spro set ups worked best and when the drift was faster the bait rigs did really well but the sea bass tended to chew on just about everything. Capt. Rich looks forward to setting sail tomorrow morning at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.
Capt. Mike reported an awesome half day morning of fishing with a great turnout of enthusiastic half day fishers combined with fluke making a spectacular rebound as compared with the half day fishing of just 24 hours earlier. A pile of keepers up to six pounds including some other hefty jumbos pleased anglers as did the vast number of short fluke that kept things rolling right along. Another drop on the trip yielded a tidy sum of black sea bass up to 4lbs. Many of the anglers aboard left with enough fresh fish for a fine dinner or two!
