Capt. George and first mate Troy reported last night’s PM Half Day was a grand slam!! The bite started a little quiet but once it turned on, it was ON!! The fishing was just about in our own back yard to boot! A pretty even mix of nice size fluke to 5.5 lbs and jumbo sea bass to 3lbs. Longtime regular Andrew Pelletier from New Hartland CT LIMITED OUT on fluke to nearly 4lbs!! His secret was a “plain jane” bait rig, rental rod style. The moderate group of anglers had combined 130 fluke and sea bass keepers!! Needless to say there were many sea bass limits around the boat. One of the best half day outings of the summer for sure and there have been quite a few that have been very impressive! Just about everyone left with a nice bag of fillets and the majority of the anglers aboard had both fluke AND sea bass fillets to take home!! Fishing like this certainly doesn’t happen every day but just goes to show what is possible when the stars align. One picture showing just a fraction of the carnage appears courtesy of Roger. Capt. George is at the helm today for both half days with the Admiral Frances set to sail on the first one at 8am and the second at 1pm. Reminder to folks that we offer a $15 discount on the second half day trip if one does both of them. A very full day of fishing for just $65!
First mate Chris K reported that the Night Striper fishing last night was similar to that of Friday Night. It was just okay at best. Some nice bass taken and a couple small blue fish but just not in the numbers we had hoped for. Night Bass trips this week sail Wednesday through Saturday Nights at 7pm by reservation. Plenty of room on all this week’s bass outings as of now.
Capt. George reported good action on this morning’s half day and afternoon half day as well. Some nice fluke and good size sea bass and decent action with the shorts both outings. The fishing wasn’t insane like last night’s pm half but still downright respectable and many anglers left with dinner. Tomorrow Capt. Mike is at the helm with the Lady Frances set to sail for the first half day at 8am and the next at 1pm.
Capt. Rich reported another all out fluke crush today for the modest group of anglers aboard. The slow drift in the morning proved deadly for spros and bait rig set ups and there were fluke limits all around the boat!! It was mirror image fishing of last Sunday through Tuesday and most of the fish were three to five pounds with the best around six pounds. Just like those days last week some anglers most certainly limited out on fluke over 4lbs!! Once the tide started ripping and drift got really fast the bite relaxed and it was just a pick but the damage was done. No sea bass to speak of and only a couple blue fish. The fluke stole the show today! Capt. Rich looks forward to another nice day of fishing tomorrow with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am.
Roger reported the first summer cod trip of the summer season was respectable. We caught cod every place we stopped. Joe Morin from CT not only had the fine green steaker pool fish today that tipped the scales in the upper 20’s but he had the two other biggest fish on the boat with fine green cod in the 15 to 18lb range. Way to go Joe!! Joe was hi hook with four cod. A couple of other cod in the teens otherwise they were all good eating market size fish. Some ling, several Pollock, a whiting, a white hake and a few good size perch rounded out the days species assortment. The unmentionables were hardly mentionable today which made for very comfortable fishing. A few small cod and Pollock on the jigs and teasers but all the good stuff was caught on bait. A good number of the anglers aboard iced two or three cod apiece today and while its not the kind of fishing one would hire an airplane to take a banner out for it was certainly a start and something to work with. A fair amount of shorts as well which is something we always like to see. A special shout out to young Jack O’Grady who not only got his first keeper cod today but also got his first keeper Pollock!! Way to go Jack!! There is no cod trip next Sunday but we are set to have one the following Sunday leaving at 5am. Please call the office to book a reservation or book it on line.
