Roger and Capt. Mike were pleased to report a great morning of half day fishing close to home this morning!! A steady stream of keeper fluke and some nice size sea bass and plenty of short fluke plus a handful of nice size scup, some sea robins and smooth sand sharks kept the very light crowd who braved the elements very busy this morning. Frankly after a few morning downpours the sun came out and the sea flattened out and while it was oppressively humid, it turned out to be great fishing weather. A third of the anglers aboard took home four to six keeper fluke apiece and just about everyone caught enough fish for a good dinner or two! A sea bass of just under 5lbs narrowly defeated another sea bass for bragging rights. The biggest fish, a fluke over 5lbs, was not in the pool. Hi hook boxed six nice fluke today, most in the three to five pound range and that fella also threw back another fifteen or so short fluke. Another gentleman aboard boxed four nice fluke and a big sea bass and so on. All terminal gear was effective whether it be the tandem fish finder bait rig, rental rods rigs or spro set ups but the biggest fish and most amount of keeper fish fell to the tandem rig and rental rod set ups today. The fluke and sea bass were spitting up sand eels and quite a bit of whole squid today so there is plenty of bait locally which should keep the good fishing going for some time to come. Things look good for the next half day trip which is slated to sail at 4pm with Capt. Mike aboard the Admiral Frances. A bunch of pics from this morning’s half day provided courtesy Roger.
While this report is a day late it is prudent to note the wildly successful half day morning charter had yesterday by the Chris Reall group. First mate Chris K and Capt. Mike both reported the first drift was pure pandemonium with nice fluke to 5 lbs and lots of huge sea bass bending the rods all around the boat!! All on Rental Rod setups! Rental Rod set ups have been working exceptionally well the past three weeks and it has something to do with the long leader and strip bait which Roger feels mimics live sand eels on the drift. The fishing on the first drift which lasted over two hours was so good the day was made and anything thereafter was gravy. Capt. Mike figured they had a half dozen sea bass over 4lbs up to just over 5lbs on the trip with plenty of other nice ones just a shade smaller and many of the fluke were in the 3lb range! Not every trip is this good but good half day charters/open boat trips have become far more frequent as opposed to infrequent over the past month. The beach has proven to this angler and many others that she is hard on the comeback trail compared to the last several seasons. This awesome full day caliber fishing took place just fifteen minutes from the dock! Still plenty of prime dates available for private charter so if interested check out more booking details on line and then call the office and speak to Roger, Cory or Tammy to seal the deal.
Capt. Rich and first mate Capt. Cory reported today’s full day trip was good. The sea bass were the high liners once again with an easy full boat limit of nice size sea bass to over 4lbs with a few pushing the 5lb mark. Tremendous amount of sea bass double headers. Some anglers had as many as five sea bass double headers apiece (orl)! Tony Pak had double sea bass that were both over 4lbs!!! Even though we cannot keep all that many sea bass they are certainly still a blast on the light tackle fluke set ups and best of all most swim away rapidly when let go. The fluke fishing started good until the drift died late morning. Still a respectable pull of keeper fluke up to 7lbs with three other jumbos in the 5 lb range. A few anglers managed several nice fluke apiece to go along with their sea bass limits. For the fluke all terminal gear seemed to be effective with nothing standing out and the sea bass were gobbling everything in sight up. Tomorrow is a new day with a touch more wind and a different direction forecast so the odds of better fluking are on the higher side. Capt. Rich looks forward to setting sail tomorrow morning on the Gail Frances at 7am.
There will be no 9am to 3pm scup trip tomorrow or Saturday. Next scheduled 9am porgy trip will be on Thursday July 18th.
Tonight’s Striper trip is a go. Plenty of room if anyone would like to come down and walk on. Tonight’s Bass trip departs at 7pm with Capt. Ray aboard the Lady Frances.
Next Summer Cod Marathon is set to sail Sunday July 21st at 5am. Reservations are to be made on line or over the phone.
