The report from first mate Greg last night was that the Striper fishing was not quite as good as had been hoped for. To be sure some were caught including a fine pool fish in the mid to upper 20’s. There was one blue fish and a giant fluke (estimated by first mate Greg) to be at least ten pounds that was just hanging on to the end of an eel but then swam away once on the surface and that was Striper fishing for last night. Tonight we try again and Capt. Ray will be ready to set sail on the Lady Frances at 7pm. Call the office to make reservations or book on line for the next several hours.
Capt.Matt and first mate Troy reported another outstanding PM half day last night. A very pleasant blend of nice size fluke and big sea bass to please the anglers aboard and plenty of shorts to keep things very busy!! Best set ups once again for keepers were the rental rod set ups. The set ups by far out produced any of the other methods of terminal tackle. This has been the way it is for the most part for the past month. Roger has noted that for whatever reason even the green and especially mylar green flies that used to be dynamite sea bass teasers do not seem to have much effect this summer. They work ok on the fluke but on the beach have not been doing much with the sea bass. It has something to do with the sand eel run as we normally do not have sand eels in the massive droves on the beach that we have this year. There is a reason why the rental rods are set up they way they are over the years! Again this fishing was done very close to home and in shallow water. Two more half days on tap today with the first setting sail at 8am and the second trip setting sail at 4pm.
Capt. Mike and Roger were both enthusiastic about this morning’s half day. A skeleton crew of anglers enjoyed a beautiful morning on the water fishing close to home with a refreshing breeze, great quick drift and much lower humidity plus great fishing. Another tidy pile of keeper fluke and good size sea bass for the small crowd of anglers aboard. Hi hook iced four fine keeper fluke plus two nice sea bass and threw back 30 shorts while Troy’s brother Dillon boxed three fine keeper fluke and a big sea bass plus many shorts. Another young man had three big sea bass and two nice fluke and so on. Just about everyone left with a nice looking bag of fillets! Biggest fluke around or just over 5lbs and biggest sea bass well over 4lbs. Some platter size porgies to 1.5 lbs, some big sea robins and a few smooth sand sharks rounded out the species assortment for the morning half day. A couple pics from this morning’s run are provided courtesy Troy B.
Capt. Rich and first mate Capt. Matt reported that today’s full day trip was excellent. There were many sea bass limits around the boat and an excellent pull of nice size fluke, especially when compared to the last couple of outings. There were at least a few fluke limits and a nice number of anglers who iced several fine keepers apiece. Long time regular customer Judy from Burrville RI had a great day today boxing 7 good size fluke to 6.5 lbs and took the prize money to boot!! Way to go Judy!! A pic of Judy’s pool winning slab appears courtesy of her fishing partner Tim. Judy amassed her awesome catch using whole squid. Capt. Matt reported long leader bait rigs were the way to go today with the quick drift conditions. There were many sea bass over two pounds today with the best in the four pound range and there were also a few other fluke in the jumbo category. Looks like more great fishing weather tomorrow and the Gail Frances will be set to sail with Capt. Rich at the helm.
