The report from Capt. Matt on last night’s 4pm half day was of bent rods all through the trip while they were drifting the local beaches. Tremendous amounts of shorts, a nice show of keepers (both fluke and sea bass) plus the big sea robins, a few big porgies and a few sand sharks made the evening trip a success. Two half days offered today with the first to set sail at 8am on the Lady Frances and the second at 4pm aboard the Admiral Frances.
Another awesome Whale Watch today!!!! Finback Whales and a big school of dolphins plus all kinds of sea birds feeding voraciously on the big piles of sand eels which have shown up south of Block Island recently. Whale Watching is off to a fantastic start!! Some pictures today are provided courtesy first mate Chris K. Whale Watch tours are offered Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays at 1pm by reservation through the summer.
Plenty of room on tonight’s Striper trip. Call the office to make a reservation. Last night’s Bass trip was slow. There was one limit catch. Pool fish was in the mid 20’s.
First mate Nicky reported the Pasquale Aceto group had a great catch this morning on their half day charter with a nice mess of fluke to 5lbs and a handful of good size sea bass. A big pile of shorts to keep the rods bent as well as they drifted quickly down by the Breachway. Everything was on rental rod straight bait set ups today, that long leader simple bait rig set up once again proving to be very effective.
Capt. Mike reported this morning half day put a respectable amount of nice fluke and good size sea bass aboard the Lady Frances along with plenty of shorties to keep the interest level up. Former mate John Russo was aboard who fished a modified version of Roger’s tandem bait rig and wound up hi hook for the trip with six nice keeper fluke to nearly 4lbs! Way to go John!! Always the conservationist John only kept four of his keepers releasing two to grow up even bigger.
Capt. Matt was pleased with the results of his full day charter for the Jeff Nevrath group. They boxed a good amount of nice size fluke up to 8lbs with a lot of fish in the three to five pound range and a healthy number of good size sea bass to 4lbs thrown in for good measure. All rental rods with long leaders and simple bait set ups did the damage today. Capt. Matt even managed four fine keepers for the group in a short period of time. All hands left with nice bags of fillets. Still plenty of prime dates available for private charter, check out the private charters section of the web site and call the office to speak with Roger Cory or Tammy for further booking details.
Capt. Rich and first mate Chris L were pleased with the results of today’s full day fluke/sea bass trip. The fluke bite was on once again and nice size stuff to boot with the best around 7lbs and a good half dozen others in the jumbo category. No limits but a number of anglers had five and six nice keepers apiece to take home and the fish were generally fairly spread out. Quite a few nice size sea bass up to 4lbs and a few friendly blue fish mixed in as well. The past two days have seen a rather dramatic uptick in the amount of nice fluke taken in an area we like to fish regularly this time of year and the mix of sea bass and fluke has been generally impressive. First mate Chris L stated that all terminal gear seemed to be effective today with no real standouts. Looks like another great fishing day tomorrow and Capt. Rich will be ready to set sail on the Gail Frances at 7am.
