The report from the 7am full day boat was of a nice turnout of fluke and sea bass enthusiasts however the overall fishing was a bit slower than hoped for due mostly to a lack of drift. Nevertheless anglers did manage to gather a bunch of fluke that were rather spread out around the boat and the same with the sea bass. Unfortunately it was a day where not everyone went home with dinner. It is unfortunate but it happens on occasion. A few scup and blue fish mixed in with the sea bass and fluke today. Nothing big with the best fluke around 4lbs. We would however like to give a shout out to long time regular customer Al Dagnazio who did have one of the better catches today with five fine keepers, way to go Al!! Tomorrow is a new day with a great weather forecast and Capt. Matt will be ready to set sail on the Gail Frances at 7am.
The report from the morning half day was of a great turnout of fluke and sea bass enthusiasts but unfortunately the fluke and sea bass kept a low profile. Half day has been on quite a roll recently so a slow trip had to happen at some point. No word yet on this afternoon’s half day. Tomorrow the first half day will set sail with Capt. Mike on the Lady Frances at 8am and the second also with Capt. Mike on the Lady Frances at 1pm. Remember if one does back to back half days we will take $15 off the second half day which makes a very full day of fishing for just $65!! Also Monday is one of our family days where two adults and two children age 12 yrs and under can go for $100 plus rods which is a savings of $30!!
Last night the report from the Striper boat was of an okay night of fishing with a fair number of bass up to 25lbs and quite a few blue fish despite a very healthy turnout of bass enthusiasts. Capt. Ray indicated that they marked tremendous amounts of fish and bait but for whatever reason the bite was more relaxed than it had been. Overall it was one of the best weeks of the season if not the best and we hope to repeat it again with the next Striper trip set to sail at 7pm Wednesday evening with Capt. Ray.
Roger reported the second cod trip of the summer was quite respectable. Nothing big today but some nice catches of market cod with the best of the lot threatening the low teens. A good number of the anglers aboard had four to seven keeper cod apiece. Quite a few short cod as well. Cod were caught at every spot sampled. Both jigs and bait were working although at the end of the day bait was probably the best bet except very late in the day when at the last stop the fish decidedly wanted a jig/teaser combo. Blue teasers were the hot “color” as well. Big whiting, some nice ling, plenty of super size delicious ocean perch, and a few small Pollock rounded out the species assortment for the day. Another impressive event happened today being perhaps one of the most spectacular whale shows of breeching Humpback and Fin back whales that this angler has ever seen!! At times they were just a few feet away from the boat! The reason for the mind boggling amount of whales is due to the massive shoals of large and jumbo size sand eels all over the cod grounds. In fact where we cod fished today was quite different than where we send the Whale Watch most of the time so the area in which the whales are currently inhabiting in very impressive and goes for at least thirty to forty miles!! Note to birders that we are seeing all kinds of interesting sea birds and the summer cod trips are a great place to see them. Some pictures today showcasing some angler hi lights courtesy of Roger. Next summer cod trip is set to sail next Sunday at 5am by reservation.
