Roger was pleased to report the third Cod trip of the season was very successful. Good summer fishing (shades of what this writer remembers back in the 80s and 90s) today with Capt. Mike aboard the Lady Frances. Mike Manattee from lower Fairfield County CT took the pool with a fine steaker that tipped the scales at just under 35 lbs! Mike had a total of five nice cod today including another one around 20 lbs and another in the mid teens! Well done Mike! Christina from Athol Mass had four nice cod up to 20 lbs today, Tom from Newport had iced six good cod as did King from NJ. Most of the anglers aboard had three to five cod apiece to take home. Outside of the pool fish there were at least a half dozen other fish in the 18 to 20 lb range and there were a couple dozen others over 10 lbs. Size wise this is a dramatic uptick from last week. We were not fishing deep either and most of the biggest fish of the day were taken in 110 to 115 feet of water. Some big ocean perch, some nice ling, whiting, a few Pollock to 15 lbs and lots of catch and release on winter flounder to at least 4lbs added plenty of variety to todays fishing. Nice size cod in respectable numbers at every spot sampled today and we saw a lot more of those nice green white bellied cod today, many of whom were LOADED with sea lice indicative of fish moving in from offshore. A handful of fish on the jigs today but bait was far and away the way to go whether anchored or on the drift. No Whales sighted today but some sea birds and a slight sign of bait. Another great sign today was the almost entire lack of the unmentionables and lots of short cod at just about every rock pile sampled. This was solid good fishing today! A mess of pics today showcasing some of the angler hi lights are provided courtesy of Roger. Next Cod trip is set to sail by reservation at 5am next Sunday aboard the Lady Frances.
Capt. Rich reported a good day of fishing today with QUALITY again the theme. Longtime regular customer Wayne from CT once again took the pool with a fine slab just over ten pounds. This is not Wayne’s first double digit fluke this season! Well done!! First mate Chris reported lots of jumbos today with many fish over 4lbs. Some nice sea bass mixed in as well. Lots of big blue fish well into the teens today as well for some extra sport and to keep things from being anything but dull. No word was received on hi hooks or what rig/ bait was working the best but a lot of big fluke hit the deck of the Gail Frances and we will call it a good day and be ready for the next one tomorrow with Capt. Matt at the helm ready to set sail on the Gail at 7am.
The morning half day trip was reported to be a nice mix of fluke and sea bass despite little to no drift. The afternoon trip saw very good fishing with fluke to six pounds and sea bass to 3 lbs and better drift conditions. Two half days on tap for tomorrow with the first set to sail at 8am and the next at 1pm, both aboard the Lady Frances with Capt. Mike. Remember that tomorrow is FAMILY DAY at the Frances Fleet with two adults and two children 12 yrs and under able to sail for $100 plus rods (if needed). Also we have another special for those interested in doing two half days we offer a discount on back to back trips with a $15 discount on the second trip which makes for a very full day of fishing for only $65!!
Capt. Ray reported last night’s Striper trip was much better than the prior night’s trip. A much better number of bass up to 15 lbs and some nice blue fish to 8 lbs pleased the anglers aboard. Next Striper trip is set to sail on Wednesday Night at 7pm with Capt. Ray. Reservations have already started to filter in! If interested call the office to book or reserve on line on our web site.
