The report from first mate Greg on last night’s Striper trip was of fair fishing. There was at least one angler limit but the action was just not quite on par with the night before. Biggest fish was in the mid teens. A few blue fish mixed in with the Stripers. Still some availability on tonight’s trip so if interested please call the office to book. Tonight’s trip is set to sail at 7 pm with Capt. Ray.
With all the good fishing and big fluke having been caught recently on the 7 am boat I briefly inquired as to what, if anything, had been working particularly better than anything else and found out that according to Capt. Rich pink and green were the colors of choice. Also that whole squid, smelts and spro buck tail set ups have all had their moments of success recently but as always a lot of this is dependent upon the drift conditions.
Capt. Mike reported today’s morning half day was okay with some nice fluke in the three to five pound range and a handful of sea bass keepers with not many shorts of either today. Some recent half day pictures will be posted courtesy owner Christine Blount. Next half day trip is set to sail this afternoon at 4pm on the Admiral Frances.
Capt. Rich reported a great day on the 7am full day boat today. At least a couple of limit catches with John from Newington CT the hi hook for the day catching a dozen nice keeper fluke (orl) including three fish in the four to six pound range. John also spro’d up a fine 7 lb Rhode Island Red (another name for a resident cod fish) and John also had his limit of sea bass up to five pounds!! Well done John! John did all his damage with hi lo spro set up today! The pool fish was taken today by Joe Collins from Westchester PA who took the pool with a fine slab of just over 8 lbs. Joe was kind enough to send us a pic of the slab, and the picture appears at the top of today’s report. Joe’s big fluke also fell victim to a hi lo buck tail set up. A good many anglers today had several nice fluke apiece to take home with quite a few fluke that were 4 lbs or better. While spro set ups accounted for the best of the best scores, first mate Chris L noted that rental rod set ups with plain jane bait rigs also did just fine as there were several rental rod family groups that had combined fluke and sea bass totals of upwards to and better than a dozen fish. Just a really nice day of fishing today and the weather was just perfect with a nice steady drift! Some hefty blue fish to ten pounds for some extra sport today and one big porgy and that rounded out the day’s catch. Another great weather day on tap for tomorrow and Capt. Rich looks forward to setting sail on the Gail Frances at 7 am.
