Roger reported the 7am full day boat had another excellent day on the fluke grounds alongside the scenic Block Island bluffs. The drift conditions started out rocket ship like and slowly subsided from there but it was not until very late in the trip that anglers were able to tend bottom with more “normal” weights. We had wind and tide together most of the day. That being said, even at speeds at times over 2 knots this morning, the catching was excellent and the keeping almost as good. About one third of the boat was limited out with most of the rest of the anglers aboard icing four to seven nice fluke apiece. A few anglers did less than that but for the most part the fish were fairly spread out and for the most part all terminal gear was effective. Longtime regular Mike from Providence was hi hook with 12 nice fluke today(orl) using whole squid fishing UNDER the boat!! Longtime regular Ricky and his friend from City Island NY also had a great day fishing UNDER the boat with bait rigs. Dr. Art Blumer from Southington CT boated 9 fine keepers (orl) also mostly on whole squid and so on. A few limit catches also on hi lo spro and hi lo bait rig set ups. A limit catch on just plain jane bait rig as well. Biggest fish was between longtime regular James and Mr. Kim who both had fish in the six to six and a half pound range and as it turns out Mr. Kim took the prize money today narrowly defeating James. A dozen or so other jumbos today and a lot of fluke that were just shy of jumbo category (3.5 to 3.75 lbs). A few more sea bass than yesterday including a few brutes to nearly 4lbs with one angler getting three sea bass and a couple others getting two keepers apiece but overall the fluke stole the show once again! A couple MAMMOTH porgies in the 2 lb range both on whole squid and one blue fish lost boat side topped off the species assortment today on the Gail Frances. Some pics showcasing just a few of the angler hi lights today are provided courtesy Roger. Capt. Rich looks forward to another great day of fishing and weather tomorrow with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am.
The Porgy trip WILL be sailing tomorrow at 7am with Capt. Ray at the helm. Sunday also looks great for Porgy fishing as well. The sailing vessel will be the Admiral Frances.
