Looks like some great fishing weather over the next couple of days. The Porgy bite over at Block Island has been outstanding the past couple days and there has been great mixed bag fishing on the cod boat recently and Capt. Rich has gone a different direction today so look for a fresh report a bit later this afternoon! Both Sunday and Monday the boats will be set to sail at 7am with Cod on the Gail Frances and Scup on the Admiral Frances.
The tuna boat is back out on its way to the offshore grounds. Last trip was very good and we still have plenty of space on the upcoming Columbus Day Weekend trip as well as the Overnight trip slated for this coming Thursday/Friday. If interested in booking one of these trips please call the office to book a rail position and put down a deposit.
Sounds like Capt. Rich had a very good day today! Sounds quite different than yesterday! Full details as soon as they become available!! Ok here they are. Capt. Rich and first mate Chris L reported it WAS a very different day than yesterday with a nice bunch of QUALITY green as could be cod coming over the rails. Not a bail job but most of the cod taken were over ten pounds with quite a few in the mid to upper teens and several between 20 and 25lbs. Mr. Yoon from NYC took the pool with a fine fat green fish of 25 lbs today. Well done Sir! Quite a few bomber jumbo sea bass with sizes to nearly 5 lbs! Hi hooks on the sea bass had upwards to four or five big black beauties apiece. Some platter size porgies to nearly 3.5lbs according to first mate Chris L with hi hooks on the scup getting upwards to a half dozen big platter size porgies apiece. Big ocean perch to 2lbs, a nice 4lb fluke and only a few handfuls of the unmentionables plus the incredibly tranquil weather made this a trip to remember! A few angler hi lights are as follows: Jimmy K’s nephew from NYC who brought a fine 21 lb green cod to gaff that his girlfriend hooked into while Ron from East Providence was as pleased as could be with a fine 20 lb green fish and Everett Costa from Warwick RI who had three nice green cod from ten to eighteen pounds along with a sea bass estimated to be at least five and a half pounds and some other nice big sea bass and scup and so on. Everything was on anchor and on bait today. The bite was noted to be rather soft on the cod as per some of the anglers aboard so remember that if one waits for a big bite they may be waiting a long time while the big cod go from bait to bait gleefully filling their bellies. Great weather for more good fishing on tap for tomorrow with Capt. Rich ready to set sail on the Gail Frances at 7am. Some great pictures today courtesy Capt. Ted’s son Connor McDermott.
Capt. Ray reported another great day of Block Island Porgy fishing!! Lots of nice scup to nearly 2lbs along with the best showing of good size sea bass in quite some time. A couple real brutes on the sea bass too with a couple of fish in the 5lb range. Several limits of scup today and everyone left with plenty! A couple more good size triggerfish to top off the scup and sea bass haul today as well. The weather was awesome allowing Capt. Ray prime drifting conditions all day long and tomorrow looks like another fine weather fishing day and Capt. Ray will be set to sail on the Admiral Frances at 7am.
First mate Troy reported the Jeff Neurath charter was very successful today with a great haul of big scup to 2lbs and plenty of nice size sea bass up to 4.5 lbs mixed in. All hands aboard left with nice bags of fillets!
