Word has just filtered in from the Lady Frances of a SLAMMER TUNA TRIP!!! Details are few right now but we did hear word that they CRUSHED THE YELLOW FIN and had at least one Swordfish as well. Full details will most certainly be added to the report once they are known later on. The Lady Frances is not due in until very late this afternoon or early this evening. Sounds like this could be the best trip in years and they sailed with a very light load. There is still PLENTY of room on the Tuna trip set to sail Thursday morning and also this coming Columbus Day Weekend. If interested in booking one of these trips please call the office to book a rail position and put down a deposit.
Capt. George and first mate Troy reported a decent scup trip. Hi hooks had around 30 nice scup apiece. The porgies were a bit trickier to hook today for reasons known only to them but combined with a very impressive catch of sea bass up to at least 5 lbs, it was a very respectable day! At least two sea bass limits today on the Admiral Frances. There was also one huge trigger fish over 4lbs and one nice keeper tatoug. Sizes on the scup up to and just over 1.5 lbs. Due to a recent change in forecast winds for tomorrow including likely gales there will be NO porgy trip. Next possible Porgy trip is set to sail Tuesday October 8th at 7am aboard the Admiral Frances.
Capt. Rich reported an AWESOME day of local cod fishing! Most of the anglers aboard left with cod and some anglers left with lots of them. Most of the fish were in the ten to twenty pound range with a handful of smaller ones and several larger ones in the low 20’s which caused a four way tie for the pool today!! The four respective winners were as follows: Longtime regulars Norm and Peter Tu, Pete Carrol and John Dodd all agreed to split the pool evenly. In fact due to the hard work of Capt. Rich, Capt. Ted and Connor the four anglers decided to tip out the crew the proceeds from the pool. A few bigger fish were hooked but won the man vs beast contest, at least for today. There were a lot of big sea bass with many in the three to five pound range, quite a few platter size scup to just under 3lbs, a monkfish (Connie Tu), and plenty of super size ocean perch to over 2lbs to top off an outstanding catch of nice, mostly green, cod fish. Some angler hi lights as follows: Peter and Connie Tu combined for 15 nice cod (most in the teens), a dozen big sea bass to 5lbs, a nice monkfish, some big porgies while two other anglers from Staten Island NY combined for 18 good size cod to over 20 lbs along with a nice pile of big sea bass and big scup, Longtime regular Mike from CT had six good size cod to 20 lbs, an easy limit of big sea bass, a pile of big porgies to nearly 3 lbs and so on. Hi hook put ten big cod in the boat today for one very skilled angler. The cod today were not hanging themselves, once again it was a very soft bite most of the time. The action was all on bait and generally on the anchor as well. Some outstanding pictures showcasing just a few of today’s angler hi lights are provided courtesy longtime regular customer Leo from Waterford CT and also longtime regular Connie Tu of Warwick RI. Due to a rather substantial upgrade in wind forecast for tomorrow, we had to cancel the cod trip that was slated to go. Therefore the next scheduled cod trip is set to sail Wednesday morning at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.
