Roger reported another very exciting day of local togging with Capt. Mike aboard the Lady Frances. Mother Nature’s Westerly wind forecast was spot by the weatherman and conditions were downright frisky, nevertheless the tatoug frequently were biting like crazy throughout the day. There were many angler limits with at least half of the anglers aboard limited out and then there were a few anglers who did not fare as well and a handful of others who fell somewhere in between. Togging can be tricky and the bigger they are the trickier they are to put on the deck. Mind bogglingly busy action with the short tog on a few drops as well with some anglers catching thirty to forty shorts for the day plus their keepers!! Quite a few brutes today as well with three fish between 9.8 and 10.8 lbs along with others in the 7 to 9 lb range. Speaking of big tog locally, one of the charter boats, the SNAPPA who does private charters out of Galilee(skippered by Capt. Charlie Donlon) had a tatoug today that was weighed on the certified scale at Capt. Tackle that checked in at 15.75 lb !!! A few handfuls of keeper sea bass, one red hake and one pre big Conger Eel plus a mess of tiny perch and throwback sea bass rounded out the species assortment for the day. Tatoug were taken today on both crabs and clams but the crabs had the edge. The next three or more days in a row look just great for fishing and warmer temperatures will add additional comfort, and Capt. Mike will be ready to set sail at 6am on the Lady Frances tomorrow and the Weekend. Some pictures today showcasing just a handful of the angler hi lights are provided courtesy Roger.
The weather also looks great for cod and sea bass fishing the next three if not four days and Capt. Rich will be setting sail aboard the Gail Frances at 6am tomorrow right through the weekend and possibly Monday as well! Tomorrow’s cod trip will be the first one since last Sunday. Recent cod catches have been respectable and there have been plenty of big sea bass and lots of other good eating bottom dwellers mixed in.
