Roger reported the cod and sea bass trip today was successful. There was a full boat limit of big sea bass to over 4 lbs by about noontime with tremendous amounts of catch and release fishing the rest of the day! If someone wanted a limit of sea bass all over 3 lbs it was do able by culling. No real monsters but plenty of brag worthy black beauties. Hi hook on the cod today was longtime regular customer and exceptional rod handler Mr. Kim who boxed six nice cod and had the two biggest cod on the boat with fish of just under 15 lbs and the other around 11 lbs. Mr. Kim also had two baseball bat size red hake, an easy limit of big sea bass and some other assorted bottom critters that filled his cooler right to the brim! While Mr. Kim had the best single person cod catch in quite some time down here, for the rest of the folks the cod were not as spread out with a few here and a few there. Mr. Kim was using the same bait as everyone else but this angler did notice that he did get the majority of the cod with the hook going about six inches below the sinker. Perhaps the cod were lower to the bottom and had a chance to get a better look at the bait before the sea bass swarmed in on the clam? Roger was on one side of the fella and had zero cod while another longtime cod fishing customer was on the other side of Mr. Kim and also had zero keeper cod. There were a few handfuls of nice size scup, some big ocean perch, one other red hake, and several blue fish of varying size. The unmentionables were out in some force today and numbers of them could be greatly reduced by using one hook down low and in general just keeping that sinker on the ground as much as possible. There was some decent tide and swing on the anchor which at times made tending bottom a tad more challenging. Some sea bass were taken on jigs and teasers today and a number of big sea bass were caught while anglers were either letting their lines down to the bottom or reeling up which indicates the sea bass were swimming way up off the bottom at times. All in all it was a very nice day of fishing. We try again tomorrow, the weather forecast looks great! Capt. Rich will be ready to set sail on the Gail Frances at 6am. Capt. Mike reported another excellent day of togging. Lots of limits and sizes to 8 lbs and a good amount of shorts as well to keep things rolling right along. A decent amount of nice size sea bass for a change today with several of them jumbos over 2lbs and several nice cod to nearly 10 lbs came aboard as well. In fact the 10 lb cod took the pool today on the Lady Frances. Not only were the guys cutting all the way back to the dock but they were also cutting for quite some time at the dock! A few pics today provided courtesy Capt. Mike. More great fishing weather tomorrow with the Lady Frances set to sail with Capt. Mike at the helm at 6am.
