General Manager Cory Blount just relayed word that Capt. Mike and crew had an outstanding tuna trip! A nice mess of yellows in the 50 to 70 lb with the best around 80 lbs along with some other smaller keepers plus a mess of good size mahi and a staggering number of short tuna. Customers caught and released somewhere on the order of 200 short yellowfin tuna!!! It was drop and stick fishing at its finest, the tuna were everywhere boiling on the surface through massive schools of bait fish. In fact many anglers were practically “hand feeding” the tuna. Still two openings on the Long Range Trip set to sail tomorrow night at 10pm, call the office if interested in going. A couple pictures from a recent tuna trip provided courtesy longtime customer Gerry Grate.
Tomorrow is the last day of the season for half day fishing and Labor Day trips will set sail at 8 am and again at 1 pm.
An enthusiastic turnout of fishers today aboard the Gail Frances, no doubt due to the blue bird weather Mother Nature beset upon us. A fair amount of fluke aboard despite the slow drift conditions with the biggest of the lot around 8 lbs and hi hooks grabbing four or five nice keepers. The sea bass side of things was very good although some did much better than others but a fair number of limits were attained. Sizes to 5 lbs on the sea bass with a good number of the keepers jumbo size of three pounds or better. Some nice size scup to 2 lbs mixed in and a few fishers who brought clams managed to bag upwards to a half dozen big scup apiece. Weather looks wonderful again tomorrow with a bit more of a breeze promised by the weatherman. Capt. Rich will set sail aboard the Gail Frances at 7am.
