WE ARE PORGY FISHING THIS WEEKEND!! WE WILL BE SAILING BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AT 7AM AND RETURN AT 3 PM!
Roger reported great weather but slower cod fishing today aboard the Gail Frances despite an enthusiastic turnout of fishers. Everything was on the slower side but still a fair amount of cod, scup, sea bass and ocean perch made it aboard today along with a handful of large sea flounder. A handful of the sea bass were brutes in the three to four pound range. A few anglers managed three nice cod apiece for hi hooks on those and a few anglers had upwards to a half dozen sea bass and scup apiece. A fair amount of the cod were good size fish in the 8 to 12 lb range with the best of the lot in the mid to upper teens. Biggest fish of the day was taken by longtime regular Lou Palumbo from Niantic CT with a fine green fish of 18 lbs and Lou was one of the few anglers who boxed three good cod for the day. One nice pollock today too about 8 lbs. Some pictures today provided courtesy of Roger. Next trip will be Friday with the Gail Frances set to sail at 7am with Capt. Rich at the helm.
In other news, thinking ahead to a bit later in the fall season, the black fish have already begun their chewing near shore and some truly trophy size specimens have been taken including a behemoth 18.9 lb monster that was weighed in here at the Capt. Tackle shop on the certified calibrated scale by Capt. Frank Blount himself! This was also the biggest tog I have ever seen too.
Tonight’s Tuna trip is cancelled due to the weather.
