Capt. Mike reported an outstanding offshore trip which just came back this afternoon. The albacore stole the show and in a big way!! Just an all out bail job with bent rods up and down and all around the Lady Frances. A true blood bath! These were no albacore to sneeze at either with the fish all really nice fish in the 50-70 lb range. Just one nice yellow fin. Both jigs and bait produced on the albacore. Outside of a few small mahi there were no other exotics. Longtime regular Louis Figueroa from CT commented it was one of his best tuna trips ever!! Jig Master Louis put six big albacore aboard the deck of the Lady Frances while longtime offshore customer Bill Munsel also put a tidy pile of albies on the ice, Jeff from Portland CT boxed three, Basilo from West Hartford two and so on. Jig Master Louis even gave out some fresh albacore steaks to a few of those fishers who were less fortunate. Just one trip left for the offshore season with still PLENTY of room on it leaving Wednesday Night at 10pm. This trip can be booked over the phone with an office representative. A few pictures today provided courtesy of Mr. Figueroa. Thanks again Louis!!
Roger reported today’s cod fishing was the same as the past two and different from the past two days in some ways. We did manage a few more handfuls of cod today and customers tossed back a mess of short cod of varying sizes. We did have a few more green fish today and a couple more nicer market size fish in the 8 to 10 lb range with the pool fish in the low to mid teens. What was startlingly different was that the cod today were caught just about all on bait rigs and the majority were taken by rental rod customers fishing one hook down low. Hi hook boxed four cod with a boat rod. Pool fish boat rod and all the better size cod boat rods and so on. Everyday is different! The number of porgies today was vastly different as well with really just a scattering and nothing huge. A handful of fishers had upwards to a dozen or so scup apiece. We had a fine 4lb fluke, one large sea flounder, some big ocean perch and just a couple of the unmentionables fishing the most Coxes Ledge like portion of the Block Island grounds. It was a gorgeous warm sunny day on the water and the wind vs tide conditions allowed for beautiful slow to moderate drift. Next fishing day for cod is on Wednesday aboard the Gail Frances with Capt. Rich at the helm set to sail at 7 am. A couple of pictures today courtesy Roger.
