Roger was pleased to report that the local cod and sea bass fishing was downright respectable today. An easy boat limit of sea bass up to 4 lbs and as many cod fish as yesterday for a fraction of the fishers. “Captain” Cavernicolas from Hartford CT was the cod super star today aboard the Gail Frances boxing six nice cod to nearly ten pounds, an easy limit of big sea bass, a scup and taking the pool honors. Way to go Captain Cavernicolas!! Next best cod score was three fine keepers. Honorable mention goes to Joseph Garcia from Providence RI who had the second biggest cod threatening the ten pound mark. Just a few scup mixed in with the cod and sea bass and the unmentionables were only worthy of a mention on one anchor set. A few good size ocean perch as well and some throwback cod. One cod fish was jigged up in the doggy spot otherwise everything was on clams. Pictures today courtesy of Roger. We look forward to trying again tomorrow and Capt. Rich will be set to sail at 6 am for cod and sea bass aboard the Gail Frances.
Another good day on the tog boat today according to first mate Cote who stated the bite was by far best in the morning and then slowed down due to the weather as the day went on. A number of anglers easily limited out in the hot morning bite with one angler doing so within a half hour! Anglers in the know generally got limit or near limit catches and the only part of the boat which was handicapped for reasons, known only to the forces that go on underneath the sea , was actually the bow. A nice mix of sizes with the biggest around or just over 8 lbs. A few handfuls of sea bass mixed in and a couple of short cod fish. Next tog trip sets sail tomorrow morning at 6am aboard the Lady Frances.
