Roger reported a great day of local cod and sea bass fishing. There was an outstanding cod bite early this morning on the grounds with the fish jumping all over customer’s clam baits but showing little interest in jigs. A good number of the patrons aboard quickly grabbed several cod apiece just during the first hour and a half. Then the cod bite abruptly died and the biggest kind of sea bass up to 6 pounds and scup to 3 lbs took over. The bite was just insane!! A full boat limit of sea bass was easily attained today and included a formidable amount of sea bass in the 4 to 5 lb range with a few bigger ones to at least 6 lbs. Biggest sea bass of the day was taken by Jacob Paciotti from Burlington CT with a monster biscuit of at least six pounds and congrats further to Jacob who took the pool for the day with a fat market cod. Several larger cod into the low teens were boated today but not in the pool. The biggest cod in the low teens was taken by Norman Johnston from Lynn MA. Some anglers had a full limit of big scup as well today with many platter size porgies in the 1.75 to 2.5 lb range and a few bigger ones as previously mentioned to nearly 3 lbs. For cod fish Hi hook honors went to longtime regular Mike Kwok who boxed 7 nice keepers today!! Well done MIke!! There were at least several other fishers who had four or even five nice keeper cod apiece today to go along with their great catches of scup and sea bass. While not everyone took home fresh cod fish, the majority of fishers did. Quite a few short cod early on when the bite was hot as well. A handful of ocean perch, a couple large sea flounders, and a bunch of small blue fish rounded out the day’s action. The unmentionables were scarce today which is always welcome news!! Next cod/sea bass trip will set sail tomorrow morning at 6 am with Capt. Rich at the helm. Pictures today courtesy of Roger.
Capt. Mike reported a good day of tog fishing today aboard the Lady Frances. There were some limit catches and others who were not far behind. Some real quality fish today with a bunch of fish in the 7 lb range and the best of the lot tipping the scales at just under ten pounds. Very few sea bass but one beautiful fat market cod decided to jump aboard the Lady today. Continued great action with the short tog which certainly keepers fishers busy at the rail. Next tog trip sets sail tomorrow morning at 6am aboard the Lady Frances.
