Roger reported excellent sea bass and scup action today aboard the Gail Frances but just okay cod fishing. There were quite a few short cod but the number of keepers was sub par overall. Hi hook did take home three keepers today. Longtime regular Lou P’s fishing buddy, Victor from Waterford, took the pool today with a fine cod fish of around ten pounds. Way to go Victor! Victor only narrowly missed the pool last Monday as well so Victor is well versed in seeking out the bigger gadids. The boat had its sea bass limit no problem and quite a few big ones over 3 lbs with some of the biggest over 5 lbs today and the porgies were plentiful and frequently big with quite a few in the 1.5 to 2 lb range and some anglers easily filled a five gallon pail with them. Just a few big ocean perch today. The unmentionables were around today but a lower hook and no color was a quick ticket to avoid them. Two things really stood out today however, a very impressive number of small blue fish from 1 to 4 lbs. There were so many for a while, two at a time for some folks! Great eating/smoking size. The other was a first for this fisher who witnessed not one but two squetague (weak fish) hit the decks of the Gail Frances. Personally I had not seen one in thirty five years and never aboard the party boat. Mike Kwok and another regular customer Dan from Clinton CT were the lucky fishers who caught this once common Rhode Island visitor (back in the 60s and 70s). Next cod/sea bass trip is due to set sail Wednesday morning at 6 am aboard the Gail Frances with Capt. Rich at the helm. A few pictures today courtesy of Roger.
Tatoug fishing: First a few updates. First of all this past Tuesday November 10th a behemoth tog was taken aboard the Lady Frances by longtime regular customer Mike Kwok. The fish weighed 14.8 lbs on the certified calibrated contest scale here at the office. This is the fish of a lifetime! Congrats Mike!! This is the biggest tog that we are aware of in recent history to be decked aboard Lady Frances. A picture of Mike with his big tog appears courtesy of deckhand Zach E. By the way tog fishing was outstanding that day with the Lady Frances easily accumulating a full boat limit of tog up to 9 lbs and tremendous amounts of short tog providing non stop action!
Tatoug fishing yesterday was much better than anticipated after all the weather. There were at least a few limit catches and some really nice size fish boated. Biggest tog was a solid ten pounder but it was beat out by two teen size cod fish just a couple pounds bigger. Not much in the way of sea bass but decent numbers of keeper tog and plenty of short tog to keep anglers busy.
Today’s tog fishing was very good according to Capt. Matt. There were a decent number of limit catches and the biggest tog were around 9 lbs. A fine cod fish of at least ten pounds however took the pool today aboard the Lady Frances. A few other keeper cod and a bunch of short cod plus the best showing of keeper sea bass in awhile today. Plenty of short tog and short sea bass kept patrons amused at the rails. Next tog trip will set sail tomorrow morning at 6 am with Capt. Mike at the helm of the Lady Frances.
