Roger reported a good day of fishing generally speaking aboard the Gail Frances today. The boat was likely just a handful of sea bass short of a full boat limit and sizes were generally good with some big stuff in the 3 to 4 lb range and a few that were threatening but probably not quite to the 5 lb mark. Quite a few big scup today too with those who targeted them with smaller baits doing really well and some fishers easily filling a five gallon pail with big scup to well over 2 lbs. Cod fishing was respectable( numbers up from Monday) but they were not as spread out as we would have liked to see. Longtime regular and exceptional rod handler Elliot from Niantic was by far hi hook today with six nice keepers (5 of which he jigged up) along with an easy limit of sea bass and some big porgies on the jig/teasers as well! Orlando from Stamford Ct also jigged up a pair of market cod. Several other fishers had two or three cod apiece. A fair amount of short cod today and we did have a few bigger fish into the mid teens today. A lot of big ocean perch today and one or two big sea flounder. The unmentionables were a force to be reckoned with today unfortunately and those who insisted with two hook rigs and/or color definitely had more experience with them. The Captain and mates who work the Gail Frances again would like to reiterate the use of more stout rods and heavier sinkers when fishing this deeper water type of trip. Please call back tomorrow afternoon in regards to a possible trip on Friday as we are taking a close looks at future forecast updates but early thinking now on the weekend is good for cod and sea bass fishing. Awesome tog fishing again today on the Lady Frances according to Capt. Mike with the boat being only a few fish shy of a full boat limit. Sizes up to 9 lbs. Tremendous amounts of shorts too keeping the anglers very busy through the day. Some sea bass keepers and a few cod fish keepers topped off a great catch of tatoug. Due to an increasingly forboding forecast for tomorrow the black fish trip has been CANCELLED!! Call tomorrow afternoon to find out about a possible trip this coming Friday as we will be closely monitoring the weather.
