Roger reported the cod/sea bass boat had a much better trip today as compared with Monday’s outing. We had a lot more cod fish, more sea bass, and the super size scup were back in force!! Some large to gargantuan size ocean perch with some of them literally 2 lbs! Hi hook on the cod was Mr. Pak up in the bow who boxed 7 nice keepers and took the pool with a fine fat green fish of around 18 lbs. Mr. Pak also had two other cod in the teens. There were a few other fishers with 5-6 keeper cod apiece and a bunch who had 2 to 4 cod apiece and then those who did not fare as well with the cod. Longtime regular Lou P from Niantic had the second biggest cod of the trip with a beautiful green fish in the mid teens, one of four nice cod fish Lou boxed in addition to a sea bass limit and plenty of big porgies. Just about everyone had all the big porgies they wanted with sizes up to and just over the 3 lb mark with most of the scup 1 to 2 lbs. Numerous fishers easily limited out on the big porgies. The scup did make things challenging at times but they did subside a bit in the afternoon allowing more cod and sea bass a shot at customer’s clam baited hooks. There were more sea bass limits today than we have seen in awhile and sizes were slightly better with a few more fish over 2 lbs and a few pushing the 3 lb mark. Not a single unmentionable today and one important observation was the number of decent size cod fish who were caught on a hi hook today. Quite a few short cod as well. The weather was great allowing for a slow steady drift all day long and today certainly put the mixed bag in mixed bag fishing. Not too much on the iron today, bait was the way to go. We marked tremendous amounts of bait on some of the grounds sampled so things continue to look very good going ahead. Some pictures today courtesy of Roger. Looks like some epic early to mid December weather on tap Friday through the weekend and the Gail Frances will be ready to set sail at 6am each day.
Gorgeous weather on tap for tomorrow and Capt. Mike will be ready to set sail on the Lady Frances at 6am for some ninth inning tog fishing and perhaps a few more cod fish.
