First mates Chris K and Sean Newton reported Capt. Rich had a good day aboard the Gail Frances. Some really nice size cod fish were boated today including a dozen fish over ten pounds with the best of the lot tipping the scales at 25 lbs! Jigs worked fairly well for the folks in the bow today with longtime regular Orlando from Stamford CT (Lucky) hi hook boxing five good codfish and Elliot from New London tricking 3 nice cod to eat the metal and so on. A handful of sea bass limits today with overall decent numbers of them, especially as we head towards mid December. Once again the scup were ravenous and eagerly devoured fisher’s clam baits with too many double headers to count!! Easy limits of platter size porgies to 3 lbs and perhaps a bit higher were attained by those who desired them. Some big ocean perch and very few of the unmentionables made for a great day on the water complete with flat calms seas and ample sunshine and remarkably warm afternoon temperatures. Another weather gem on tap for tomorrow and Capt. Rich will be set to sail on the Gail Frances at 6am.
Roger reported a fine day of fishing aboard the Lady Frances today. The tog were not that easy to come by but we did still chip away at some nice ones. Hi hook boxed four good tog including a pair of 8 lbrs for that fella with a few others catching two or three apiece to take home. The day was rather a story of bookends. The first drop produced some tog and some cod and then the next several sets were a very slow chip and then the last tog spot produced a pleasant surprise in the form of a healthy shot of nice green cod fish. One just never knows where these cod fish will pop up but boy were we glad they did right at the end and it made the day! Capt. Mike even stayed out a bit later to ensure all fishers aboard left with at least a cod or two for dinner. Most fishers had at least two or three and several had 5-8 nice cod apiece. Biggest were in the mid teens with a respectable number of other “gaffers”. Quite a few short cod as well as a lot of short tog, a handful of good size sea bass, some huge ocean perch and no unmentionables made for a great ninth inning day of tatoug fishing along the RI coast line. Both clams and crabs seemed to work evenly on the tog today. A few pictures today courtesy of Roger. Capt. Matt will be at the helm for tog tomorrow with the Lady Frances set to sail at 6 am.
