The report given to owner Christine Blount from the Gail Frances deckhands today goes as follows: For cod fish they had a respectable amount for a very enthusiastic group of fishers with the best fish reported to be around 20 lbs. Numbers of sea bass were just so so but the Gail Frances had all the big scup anyone could have wanted but no specifics other than that. All in all a good day of fishing. Capt. Rich will set sail on the cod/sea bass boat at 6 am tomorrow morning at 6am.
Roger reported a great day of weather and fishing aboard the Lady Frances today with Capt. Matt. For the ninth inning black fish we found a rather tough chip on several spots but one fisher did quickly manage five good fish to 8 lbs on the first drop and one other fisher wound up with three nice keeper tog otherwise it was one here one there and not nearly as many shorts as we had become accustomed to. A stop late in the day on the way home once again paid handsome cod and also this time sea bass dividends. The ocean is just full of surprises this fall! The fishers aboard the Lady Frances quickly amassed a tidy pile of nice green cod to 15 lbs and a pretty impressive bounty of sea bass with a few really nice ones to nearly 5 lbs!! Add at least one big red hake, some big ocean perch, and a handful of scup and lots of catch and release with the shorty cod and it was one very busy last stop. Capt. Matt really deserves a pat on the back for such a great job well done and staying out a few minutes past time so that all fishers aboard would go home with a nice bag of fillets and or hefty coolers! The cod fish responded to both bait and jigs well but more of the bigger fish fell victim to the iron clam (the weather was so nice we turned it loose on the drift!). In the short span of cod and sea bass fishing Rick from Belchertown MA quickly piled six nice keeper cod and several sea bass into his cooler for example and a decent number of other fishers had 2 to 6 nice sea bass and 3 to 7 nice cod apiece all in short order! While such results cannot be guaranteed we have now been pleasantly surprised by the cod fish three times this past week aboard the tog boat!! Keep in mind however we are looking for last minute togs and tomorrow will be the last day in search of them. Again tomorrow is the last day of tog fishing at the Frances Fleet for the 2015 season and Capt. Matt will be on the look out for some bottom of the ninth inning black fish and who knows what else may creep aboard so if interested come into the office tomorrow morning to purchase your ticket as Capt. Matt will set sail at 6 am aboard the Lady Frances. Pictures today showcasing some angler hi lights courtesy of Roger.
