Capt. Mike reported a good day of cod fishing. Fishing was a small step down from some of the craziness we have experienced but the first several drifts today were excellent and many of the fishers aboard had procured a respectable catch by late morning. There were a half dozen or so fishers who were in the 8 to 10 keeper apiece range with most falling between 3 and 6 keepers apiece. Both bait and jigs worked today but bait probably had the edge. A lot of good size ocean perch mixed in today and quite a few good size mackerel and herring and even a few squid were snagged on jigs/teasers and baited hooks today so there is still a tremendous amount of feed in the area. As has been the case a lot of cod fish which are just short as well so there has certainly been lots of action at times. Plenty of bait birds still in the area too which pleased a handful of bird enthusiasts who have recently been out with us. Porpoise sightings have been a regular occurrence and last week a Finback Whale was sighted on the grounds. Some of the unmentionables today but nothing too crazy. Weather looks great the next few days and the Lady Frances will be set to sail at 5 am with the office to be opened at or around 330 am for ticket sales.
