The early word from the Tuna trip en route to the docks as we speak is that Capt. Mike had a very good trip with a lot of Yellows generally 50 to 70 lbs in size. The action was spurty but we will consider it a very strong start to the 2016 offshore season. The fishing was very clean with 100 percent yellow fin tuna. Chunking during the day seemed to produce best. Outside of the fishing customers were treated to some extraordinary sightings of Pilot Whales in huge numbers which hung around the boat for extended periods of time treating fishers to perhaps a once in a lifetime Whale Watch show! Some great pictures showcasing a whole bunch of angler hi lights courtesy regular customer John P.
Capt. George reported a good pick of nice size sea bass this afternoon for a very light load of half day fishers and a handful of nice size fluke. Two half days on tap for tomorrow with the first set to sail at 8 am and the second at 1pm aboard the Admiral Frances.
The report from the Gail Frances was that the weather, despite some showers, was almost too nice today with very little drift. Some nice size fluke up to 9 lbs or so were taken but not in the numbers we were hoping for. A handful of really nice fish for sure though, longtime regular customer Mike Kwok had one around 8 lbs, Mr. Pak also had one around 8 lbs and then there was the pool fish at 9 lbs taken by longtime regular customer and exceptional rod handler Dave Adams from Charlton MA and a few others over 6lbs. In fact Dave and other fellow regular customer and exceptional rod handler Brian Cofske from Worcester MA did quite well today combining for 7 big fluke, a mess of big sea bass and a few platter size porgies. They credited much of their success to fishing live bait they caught off the Galilee docks this morning! A few fishers had three or four keepers apiece to take home. Decent numbers of good size sea bass. Most fishers had 3 to a full limit catch of sea bass apiece. Several sea bass in the four to five pound range today. Some hefty scup to at least two pounds as well mixed in. Full details to follow. Weather looks fine for both Friday and Saturday right now and the Gail Frances will set sail at 7 am both days with Capt. Rich at the helm. Pictures today courtesy Brian Cofske and Dave Adams.
