Capt. George reported a good day of mixed bag fishing around Block Island. A better showing of fluke with a few fishers getting four to six keepers apiece. A decent amount of the fluke were in the four to six pound range with the best around seven pounds. Good numbers of sea bass and while the boat wasn’t limited out on sea bass many of the fishers aboard were limited out or near limited out. Some impressive sizes on the sea bass with fish up to nearly 5 lbs. Some slammer scup to 2.5 lbs mixed in. Overall a nice day of fishing and both mates were still busy cutting at the dock! We sail again tomorrow at 7 am aboard the Gail Frances with Capt. Rich at the helm.
Capt. Rich reported the cod charter for the Jeff Neurath group from CT found a mixed bag of market size cod, some big red hake, big porgies and some big sea bass. Sizes on the cod to just under ten pounds and hi hook was reported to have five nice keepers. Sizes on the red hake to over 3lbs and ditto for the scup and biggest of the sea bass were reported to touch the five pound mark. A couple of nice fluke and some good size ocean perch and a modest amount of unmentionables rounded out the day’s action. Our fall cod season kicks off next Saturday at 7 am aboard the Gail Frances. The cod schedule will be Weekends and Monday Wednesday Fridays weather permitting at 7 am.
